SLEUTHS UNEARTH ILLEGAL LIQUOR HAUL; MADIKERI March 20, 2006 Sleuths of Excise yesterday raided a house and seized lakhs worth illicit spirit, fake liquor and equipments at Virajpet. According to police, Madhusudan and Lobo of Kerala were involved in the racket and were manufacturing fake liquor with famous brand names in their house at Chickpet in Virajpet. Apart from the spirit, sleuths have seized a Maruthi omni, three machineries and other equipments, labels used for the illegal deal. The two accused are arrested and the investigation is on. BEATEN TO DEATH;An agriculturist, Annaiah, 43, was done to death by a father and sons gang at Virajpet taluk on Saturday. According to police, Ponnappa and two of his sons at attacked Annaiah at Tomara in Virajpet taluk with stones and clubs. A seriously injured Annaiah ran for help from house to house and fell dead in front of a house in the village. Police have arrested Ponnappa and Madhu and are looking for another son, who is on the run. They stated that a dispute over sharing the water for agriculture purpose existed between the deceased and the accused. WOMEN SWEEP STREETS;Members of the Stree shakthi and Self Help Groups yesterday cleaned the city streets and other areas and took an oath to keep their surroundings clean. CMC member Monti Ganesh said that over fifty-five women orgnisations took part in the clean up programme. Rotary Misty Hills and Lions Club sponsored the programme. |
