GENERALS HOUSE TO BE A MONUMENT;

Madikeri March 21

State government has indicated that the house of General Thimmaiah would be converted into a monument.

Deputy Chief Minister B.S.Yediyurappa announced this yesterday while presenting budget before the cabinet in Bangalore. His announcement comes in the wake of centenary of General Thimmaiah being held in Kodagu next month. It can be recalled that president Abdul Kalam would be inaugurating the centenary to be held by Kodava Samaj at Madikeri.

At present, the Regional Transport office is occupying the house.

While this correspondent spoke to the RTO here, he stated that the house is the property of Regional Transport Department and they purchased it from Mrs.Thimmaiah way back in 2000. We have to wait and see how the government is going to deal with the situation, he said.


LORRY ACCIDENT CLAIMS ONE;

A lorry proceeding towards Kerala turtles down claiming one and injuring three.

The incident was reported from Baalamani near Thithimathi in South Kodagu early yesterday. The residents living in Anechowkur, Kerala – Kodagu border stated that the lorry was smuggling cows illegally to Kerala at the time of the incident. They stated that more than eight cows died in the accident and few were injured. They alleged that they cows and their dead body was removed from the sight well before the police arrived. They strongly suspect the hands of police and forest officials in the smuggling of livestock to Kerala.

The lorry driver died on the spot and three others were shifted to Periyapatna hospital.

KSRTC DRIVER DIES;

A KSRTC driver hailing from Kodagu died in a road accident reported at Bangalore on 19th.

A Tata Sumo near Jahkkur Airport hit Dharmappa, 53. The vehicle hit him as he was trying to cross the road on foot. Dharmappa was to return to Madikeri, driving the night service bus. He was returning from his relative’s house at Yelahanka.

He leaves wife and four children.
