ELECTION FOR LOCAL BODIES ON 13TH;

Madikeri April 11, 2007

The much awaited election for local bodies will be held on May thirteenth and government has decided on dates.

One municipal council and three Town Panchayaths in Kodagu will also undergo election on the same day. While the election will be held on May 13th, counting will begin on fifteenth. The election will be officially declared on this 24th. Last date for filing nomination would be May 2 and 5th will be the last date to with draw.

The Madikeri City Municipal Council has 22,638 voters in 31 wards. Kushalnagar Town Panchayath has 10,416 voters in 13 wards. Somwarpet Town Panchayath has eleven wards with 5638 voters. Virajpet Town panchayath has 12,014 voters with 16 wards.

High political activity has begun in the district with leaders conveying meetings in secret places. While few parties face internal conflicts, BJP and JDs leaders are worried over whether to go in for election independently or join hands to fight against congress.

MP RELEASES 20.5 LAKH

Member of the Parliament, Prema Cariappa has released rupees 20.5 lakh for different projects in Kodagu.

Member of the Coffee Board, Dr.kaverappa has disclosed that Prema cariappa has released the above amounts to build school compounds, repair of buildings, class rooms to college etc in many parts of the district.

NEW YEAR OF KODAVAS ON FOURTEENTH;

NATIONAL Day of Kodavas would be held on may fourteenth, according to the convenor of Codava national Council, N.U.Nachappa.

Addressing a press conference here, Nachappa stated that they have been celebrating the day since two years. The celebration would be held at capital village on the said day . Paddy field would be ploughed in the morning and later a procession with Kodava attire would be held in the town, Madikeri .

Nachappa said that memorandum would be submitted to government demanding rights of Kodavas on the said day. He clarified that his continuous fights are yielding results.
