ELECTRIFICATION TO ALL HOUSES;

MLA K.G.Bopaiah said that all villages in the district will be provided with electricity by next March.

Inaugurating public works at Sampaje gram panchayath vicinity yesterday he said that rupees 33 crores are released for electrification in the district under Rajivgandhi rural electrification scheme. The survey work is already over and a contractor from Tamilnadu will begin the work shortly, he disclosed.

Stating that there is no dearth for funds in the present government, he said that developmental works like roads and housing are getting priority. He disclosed that couple of villages in the district are being developed at a cost of rupees one crore each under the Suvarna Karnataka scheme. The government has adopted one thousand villages in Karnataka under this scheme.

Touching upon widening of state highways, Bopaiah said that those who built buildings on either sides of the road before 1974 will get compensation. Regions can improve only if the road facility is good, he opined.

Mentioning about the resentments about conflicting forest policies denying right to the tree owners in their own lands, he accused the former minister from Kodagu who did nothing to solve the problem and shedding a crocodile’s tear now.

ZP vice president B.C.Neelamma, TP president T.Kishore Kumar and others accompanied the MLA and addressed function after inaugurating work spots.

RS.4.15 CRORES RELEASED FOR ROADS;

MLA B.A.Jivijaya has said that the government has released rupees 4.5 crores to develop roads in Somwarpet taluk on his request.

Addressing scribes at Somewarpet yesterday, he said that the PWD minister GH.D.Revanna has considered his demands and approved the road proposals.

He also said that rupees five lakhs is released to repair the junior college bilding. Funds are also released to take up various developmental works, he opined.

TOURISM TO GET A FACELIFT;

Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav has said that the district administration has sent tourism proposals and rupees two crore would be released for the purpose.

Addressing tourism development meeting here yesterday, Subodh yadav said that a proposal of rupees 3.3 crore woulde be sent to government including de silting of lakes etc.

The fund includes erecting sign boards, seats around tourist spots and providing basic facilities for tourists. He advised officials to start bus service to tourist spots like Irpu and Abbi falls, Talacauvery and other places.

TWO DIE IN ROAD MISHAP;

In a bizarre accident where the motorbike was carrying three persons, two persons died and another received serious injury.

Abdul Rashid, 28, of Aalavara died on the spot as Swapna, a BSc student died on the way to hospital. Her friend Juliet is shifted to Mangalore in a serious condition.

The incident occurred at a curve near Madikeri around 7.15 a.m.. The boy was riding his Pulsar bike with two girls from Kushalnagar to Madikeri. An Escher lorry was going from Madikeri. The boy attempting to overtake another lorry reportedly bashed against Escher. The bike crumpled with Rashidh to the impact and threw around the girls.

The girls were immediately shifted to Madikeri hospital. They were adviced to be shifted to Mangalore and Swapna died on the way to Mangalore near Sullya.

Swapna and Juliet were coming to Madikeri to join their friends to go for a study visit to Chettalli Horticulture research station. Why they came in a motorbike with a stranger is a question which is giving room for speculations.
