“IT AND BEYOND’ INAUGURATED;

Annual event of IT festival, “IT and Beyond” has begun yesterday attracting IT savvy’s at Madikeri.

ZP president Ashok lit the lamp to mark the inauguration.

Addressing the gathering, chief guest A.M.Thimmaiah stated that IT has become a part of life. Education and literacy are important for us to progress. He regretted that in India only 8% of the population looks forward for higher education, whereas 35% of the population elsewhere in the world opt higher education.

Tapping at the general tendencies in Kodagu, Thimmaiah said that the youngsters should not depend upon the fields their parents were in and explore newer fields. A survey conducted in Mumbai has revealed that the youth there opt newer fields only and youth in Kodagu should follow the same, he said.

Chief of Hewlett Packard, South Asia and Japan, Roy Charamanna spoke on the occasion and said that the people of Kodagu are recognized world over for their hospitality. He regretted that whereas in Kodagu people suffer due to unemployment. He urged the government to provide employment opportunity to youth from Kodagu.

General Manager of BSNL, Mr.S.R.Chandran spoke on the occasion and said that telecom has a galloping progress after the entry of Information technology in India.

Chief Executive officer of Zilla Panchayath, Sundar Naik stated that IT should reach rural areas as it makes 70% of the population. Chief of Coorg Information Technology, C.C.Thimmaiah, madhukar and others were present.

WIFE FACES LIFE SENTENCE;

A wife killing her husband and burying him under the ground was sentenced to life by the district and sessions court here.

housewife Saramma is sentenced to life and ordered to pay a fine of rupees three thousand.

The incident of murder occurred during July 2003 at Doddakodli village near Kodlipet. Saramma allegedly chopped her husband Basheer to death one night as he was fighting with her under the influence of alchohol. She reportedly cut the body into pieces and tucked them inside a gunny bag and buried it in the backyard of their house.

The suspicious neighbourhood had lodged a complaint with the police about the disappearence of Basheer.

CM TO VISIT KODAGU:

Chief Minister Kumar Swamy will visit Kodagu on 17th.

MlA Basavaraju has informed scribes that Chief Minister has agreed to Visit Kodagu and attends Kannada Sahitya Sammelan to be held at Virajpet.

SWITZERLAND TEAM VISITS ESTATE;

A team from Switzerland paid a visit to a coffee estate at Sunticoppa and studied plants and production styles.

Owner of the Bettagere estate, Vinodh Shivappa informed this correspondent that the team, representing Coffee quality and technology committee from Switzerland was keen on finding out the methods adopted by the planters in these regions to produce coffee and manure and pesticides used during production.

UNDERTRIAL DIES IN PRISON;

Madikeri February 2, 2007

Kunji alias Hussein, 42 died in District prison today afternoon.

Kunji arrested in connection with an assault case on January 20th, was lodged in District prison under judicial custody.

Today, his wife and a relative went to see him in the prison. Police brought Kunji from the cell, holding him by hands and he reportedly fell dead in front of his wife.

A shell-shocked wife nearly fell unconscious and Kunjis body was taken to government hospital The doctors said that the body was brought dead and autopsy would be conducted in the evening.

Reason for the death, whether it is due to heart attack or any thing else would be established only after the autopsy is conducted.

Police have registered a case.
