FOUR FROM KODAGU DIE IN BIZZARRE ACCIDENT;Madikeri February 9, 2007 Four persons died on the spot and nine others injure, four of them seriously at Kerala as a jeep they were traveling rammed against a mini bus. Former MLA G.K.Subbaiahs daughter G.S.Leelavathy, her son Ajith Kumar, driver Andruman and Pandi died on the spot as the pick up jeep they were traveling from Kodagu with a wedding party hit a mini lorry at Koyileri near Manandvadi on fifth night. Four others in the jeep were injured seriously and shifted to a hospital at Calicut and five others with minor injuries were admitted to Manandavadi hospital.. According to Kerala police, the bus which hit the jeep also turtled and about thirty passengers got injured. But are out of danger. The Kutta Gram Panchayath president Ramakrishna has assured to release funds to the family of the deceased and Zilla Panchayath member Balakrishna has also assured assistance through ZP. People raised rupees twenty thousand from the town yesterday and gave it to the families which are financially poor. PULSE POLIO TO TARGET SIXTY THOUSAND;The district administration is all set to administer polio to about 59,430 children in the district. The health department in a communiqué has said that 468 booths are opened in the district with 1872 volunteers. Around 94 supervisors will tap the doors of the houses to trace children for polio drop on the eleventh. The District Health office has appealed to people to administer polio drops to all the children to eradicate the disease. He has also said that the health volunteers will tour the district for three days after eleventh to make sure that all the children in the district are givendrops. ‘NO’ TO GALLERY AT TALACAUVERY;Members of the Talacauavery Moolaswarupa Rakshana Vedike have opposed the move to build a visitors gallery at Talacauvery. Addressing press here yesterday Ulliyada Poovaiah, Kokkalera A.Kariappa and P.K.Muthanna said that the construction of the gallery at the holy place will ruin the beauty and sanctity of the place. They were protesting against the renovation being done by the Cauvery Authority at a cost of rupees fifteen crores. They cautioned of a severe protest if the authorities take up construction, inspite of the opposition. They also said that Talacauvery is not famous for construction and pilgrims go their to take bath in the Teertha. And they do not need a gallery to watch Teertodbhava. They also demanded not to serve food every day and it should be served only on special days of the year, as per the tradition. |
