KODAVA CULTURAL SHOW AT GOA;Madikeri February 19, 2007 A grand Kodava cultural show was held at Goa on this 17th. Subash Shirodkar, minister for Panchayath Raj addressed the gathering and said that the back bone of India is its culture combined with various forms. Shirodkar appreciated the culture, hospitality and weather of Kodagu and said that he had personally experienced it during a visit. The minister was addressing the cultural show jointly organized by Kodava Academy and Goa Kodava association. Ponda Rajiv, another guest addressed the gathering and said that there is similarity between kodava and Goa culture. Academy president Dotty Povaiah stated that the academy is holding a cultural show for the first time in an outer state. She said that the academy is striving to preserve the culture with no aste bar. Former president U.M.Povaiah regretted that the Kodavame is diminishing in Kodagu.Madanda Raja Monnappa, Mukkatira Leelesh of Goa spoke on the occasion. Cultural show including drama was held on the occasion. ARTISTS SHOULD BE ABOVE CASTE TAGH;Film producer A.T.Raghu has called upon the artists to live above caste and creed tag. Raghu was addressing the gathering yesterday after inaugurating Kodagu artists’ organization at Madikeri. Raghu urged that the organization should conduct training camps for the artists and produce and encourage budding artists. He also said that the government will also lend financial help to such organizations. Former Chairman of water and drainage board, K.P.Chandrakala regretted that Kodagu has failed to recognize artists like her brother Jai Jagadish, Raghu and others. Due respect should be shown to them by the district administration, she said.Chief guest G.Rajendra stated that literature also should be given due importance while encouraging art and artists. Drama artist Addanda Cariappa stated that artists from Kodagu should find a place in all the art related academies of the state. Not a single artist from here is recognized by the academies, he regretted. Information officer Vinodh Chandra opined that artists are the ambassadors of culture. Abdul hafiz presided over. B.R.Shivakumar welcomed the gathering. |
