GOVERNMENT NODS FOR SHIFTING BUSTAND;

A high level meeting at Bangalore has decided to shift the congested private bus stand at Madikeri to Agriculture land.

The meeting chaired by the district in charge minister Ramachandra Gowda in the presence of elected representatives from Kodagu, deputy Commissioner and agriculture officers decided to approve the proposal.

Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav and MLA K.G.Bopaiah briefed the minister about the problems faced due to traffic jam in the private bus stand area. They stated that there is no other land other than agriculture land, suitable for bust and.

Subodh Yadav said that four acres of land belonging to the Agriculture department was earmarked for the purpose earlier and the same was rejected due to objection from few individuals and the agriculture department itself. He assured that equal land could be allotted to the agriculture research purpose elsewhere.

Listening to the facts, Ramachandra Gowda urged the agriculture department to hand over land to the district administration. He assured that the government will solve any future problems in its level. He ordered officials to go ahead with the handing over process. Traffic congestion in the town is a burning issue at Madikeri since decades and all the efforts to shift it to different locations had failed due to objections and non co operation.

PEOPLE PICKET CHESCOM OFFICE;

Residents of Napoklu and surrounding area yesterday picketed CHESCOM office at Napoklu. Protestors locked the staff inside and demanded that their higher officials arrive at the spot.

Traffic was disturbed in the area as the protestors squatted in front of the office located on the main road. Yesterday happened to be Shandy day at Napoklu. People were protesting unscheduled power cuts in the area. They stated that the children are finding it difficult to study as power fails continuously during night time.

Engineer Srinath arrived at the spot and failed to convince the people. Later the protest was withdrawn after he gave assurance in writing that the unscheduled power will not be cut and payment of bills will be accepted three days in a week. Police kept vigil.

THREE GET LIFER;

The district and sessions court here has awarded life sentence to three persons for murdering a youth.

Aiyappa, Ganapathy and his daughter Fancy of Chelavara village had allegedly murdered a youth Ramesh during 2002. The trio attacked Ramesh with clubs and a bill hook. Ramesh died at Virajpet hospital. According to police Ramesh was attacked as he allegedly winked at Fancy. Ramesh’s father had lodged a complaint with the police.

The trio are given life sentence with a fine of rupees two thousand each.
