ROAD WORK VIRAJPET UNDER PROGRESS;

Road and bridge repair work at Virajpet taluk is going on in full swing and fifty percent of the work is over, according to Public works department.

According to the department, rupees 17.15 lakh was earmarked for the road repair and fifty percent of it is spent already. The amount includes grant under Rural road development, central road trust etc.

About rupees 4.9 crores was spent on four state high ways in the taluk and the contractors have to maintain them for three years, the official sources said.

CENTENARY OF SCOUTS AND GUIDES;

The scouts and guides here are gearing up to celebrate centenary in the month of August.

The Scouts commissioner Baby Mathew told here yesterday in a press conference that programmes connected with the centenary celebration will begin from this 22nd. He revealed that scouts and Guides took birth at England during 1907 and the centenary will be planned from England. He informed press that about 16 students from Kodagu will travel to England during August to take part in the centenary celebration. About thirty students will take part in the jamboree rally on this 24th.

A procession will be taken out on 22nd to mark the beginning of centenary at madikeri. DDPI Basheer will inaugurate the procession. Deputy commissioner Subodh Yadav will preside over the function. A blood donation camp is also organized on the occasion.

INTERNATIONA COFFEE UTSAV ON;

Bangalore is geared up to host International Coffee Utsav from tomorrow, the 22nd to 25th at Hiotel ashoka.

Joint convener of Utsav, Anil Bhandary told this correspondent that about 600 representatives from different countries will take part in Utsav. He said that the Utsav will hold seminars to educate the participants about the preparation of Espresso coffee, from bean to cup, scientific way of roasting, preparing coffee Italian way.

The Utsav will discuss the development of International coffee market, changes required to be made to improve quality through LCD show on 24th. Prominents in the industry, Dr.Nestor Osario od International coffee convenor, Barry Yuyen of Hongkong speciality coffee, ramesh Raja of India coffee will address the gathering on 24th and 25th. Coffee board vice chairman Bose Mandanna will also place a paper.

A prize for the best coffee cup will also be distributed during the occasion.
