COFFEE GROWERS SOCIETY ENTERING COFFEE SALES

Madikeri Jan. 11 The Kodagu Coffee growers cooperative society has decided to directly purchase coffee from the growers.12 centres are established in the district The president M.B.Devaiah disclosed this in a press conference here.

The centres are opened at Shanivarasanthe, Sunticoppa, Madikeri, Cherambane, Napoklu, kakkabe, kakotuparambu, Virajpet, Ammathi, Ponnampet and konanakatte.

The Society having more than 6 thousand members has a set back during 2000 when a burden of huge loan fall on the shoulders due to sudden collapse in the market price. during that period. The huge stock in the godown lost its’ value and the society became prey in the hands of banks. Last year the society earned a profit of Rs. 11 lakh out of the coffee sales. This has reduced the loan burden. Again this year the society is venturing for the coffee sales. to earn more profit.

The society has also attempted to export coffee to Dubai which is still under negotiation now. At present Hunsur deluxe and Hunsur Gold brand names are used which will be shortly changed to “Madikeri garden coffee”- the president .M.B.Devaiah disclosed.

COFFEE CAME UNDER “VIDARBHA” PACKAGE SCHEME

Madikeri Jan.11 Coffee has been included in Vidarbha Package directly comes under Prime Minister. The scheme provided interest wave off faculty to coffee growers till 1-6-2006. The Karnataka Coffee growers federation has submitted memorandum to the concerned ministers and the MPS which has yielded now-disclosed the Karnataka Coffee Growers federation president Athikatte Jagannath. The central Commerce Minister Kamalnath and agricultural minister Shard pawar have announced the package scheme at New Delhi. The central ministers Ambarish, oscor fernandis,Rehman Kahan and the M..P Sadananda Gowda and also the recommendation by the state Govt. has yielded result-said Athikatte Jagannath.

The central Govt. has also announced an insurance scheme for the coffee growers,. The growers are facilitated to claim the insurance whenever the crop drops due to bad weather conditions- This was disclosed by the central commerce state minister Jairam Ramesh at New Delhi, the sources said..
