VENKATACHALA BOMBARDS GOVERNMENT;Madikeri January 29, 2007 Former Lokayukta, Venkatachala bombarded the state government and called it as a Slogan government, which is not keeping up any of its promises. Addressing the Lions Club Zonal Conference at Capital village, he alleged that all politicians and officials are interested in grabbing power and money and lack service mindedness. Venkatachala said that the government is ignoring the interests of Kodagu which has produced generals and rendered noble service to the country. Developments in Kodagu are suffering and even the widows of war victims are not suitably rewarded with proper facilities. He said that the government is running with an understanding with the officials and people should vote out such politicians. He recalled the promise to make Belgaum as the second capital of Karnataka and said that such slogans are never implemented. Even promises made during the elections are not kept up, he charged. Speaking about service, Venkatachala said that it is not enough if the clubs just donate blood or and ambulance vehicle to a hospital. The clubs should try to eradicate poverty, provide education and protect environment and that is real service, he opined. Githa Madukar Shet inaugurated the conference.Zonal Chairman Madukar Shet presided over. Professor Lakshminarayana Bhatta addressed the gathering. Lions president Navin, Conference chairman Niranjan, secretaries Koti, baby Mathew and others were present on the dais. Mohan Das hoisted the flag in the morning. DEER DIES IN ROAD MISHAP;A deer was killed in a road mishap at South kodagu yesterday According to forest officials the eight year old Deer was hit by a sppeding vehicle in a sloppy road at Ambatti. Deer must have died on the spot as the tyre seems to have run over its head. Forest officials shifted the deer to a veterinary hospital and got the autopsy done. A case is registered against the unknown culprit. “KANNADA HABBA” AT VIRAJPET;Virajpet Kannada Sahitya Samithi will hold Kannada Habba at virajpet on February 17. Announcing this in a press conference, MLA and working president of the Sammelan committee, Basavaraju stated that Chief Minister Kumar Swamy and Deputy Chief Minister Yediyurappa will be invited to the function. Kannada pandith and a retired teacher K.Keshava Bhat will be invited as the president of the Sahitya Sammelan, he said. Sammelan will include colourful procession and seminars. Guests will be invited from all over the state. Addressing scribes, MLA K.G.Bopaiah, who was also present assured that he will lemd co operation to see that the sammelan takes off well in the lines of other two talukas. |
