CM TO VISIT KODAGU;Madikeri March 2, 2007 Chief Minister Kumarswamy will visit Kodagu on this eighth, according to MLA K.G.Bopaiah. Boapaih said that the CM will inaugurate the road work of Kushalnagar – Sampaje, Stadium work at a cost of rupees one crore. He will also lay foundation stone to the new RTO office building and inaugurate few other works. Kumarswamy will also address public at 11.30. NEW HELIPAD AT MADIKERI;The tourism department has released rupees ten lakh to build a helipad at Madikeri, according to Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav. Subodh Yadav told in a communiqué that the helipad can be used by tourists on rent basis. It will be managed by PWD. He also hinted that a high point at Rifle Range at Madikeri will be developed at a cost of rupees fifteen lakh. This was done in the view of tourists over crowding Rajas seat during holidays. Meanwhile road to Abby falls will also be improved and easy chairs will be erected at the place. LOKAYUKTA COMPLAINS AGAINST POLICE INEFFICIENCY;Lokayukta Santosh Hegde has lodged a complaint against Kodagu police with the Government. He has written to government alleging that he was stranded on road for hours together due to an accident followed by road block and police did not function with speed and efficiency. Lokayukta was traveling from Mangalore to Bangalore on March 25th. The traffic was stranded near Jodupala, twenty kilometers from Madikeri as a lorry and a bus collided head on and blocked the road. Lokayukta was one among the many vehicles stranded on either sides of the road. The rural police from Madikeri took a long time to arrive at the spot. Lokayukta had to wait from 2.45 to six pm in the evening for the road to be cleared and continue the journey. TENSION DURING FOUNDATION LYING;Hell broke loose as Somwarpet MLA B.A.Jeevijaya tried to lay foundation stone for a building of a Self Help group at Somwarpet yesterday. Police intervened as the situation turned to fisticuffs between the supporters of MLA and the residents of Mahadeshwara block. The residents shouted slogan against the MLA and alleged that he has mislead the deputy Commissioner and sanctioned ten cents of land belonging to a temple to a tree Shakthi group. The foundation stone laying ceremony was organized inspite of resistance from the residents. Police force was deployed foreseeing trouble. Jeevijaya laid the stone in the midst of pandemonium and declared that a building id going to come up here. He has released rupees five lakh from his fund for the purpose. Later, the Town panchayath president Leela Nirvani and residents called a press cobference and said that the land belongs to TP and Dc cannot grant it to others as the land is demarked as sacred groove. They said that the TP secretary has wrongly misled the revenue department and provided records, supporting sanction.They said that they have recommended to the DC to cancel the sanction order. |
