CM s PROGRAMME UPSETS DISTRICT;Madikeri March 7, 2007 Kodagu was gearing up to welcome chief minister Kumarswamy today. Multiple programmes and inaugurations were organized. Helipad was set. A public meeting was organized at Gandhi Maidan here. Shamiana group from Mysore was erecting pendal since three days and politicians and public were preparing memorandums and demands with the CM. But every ones interest soared down yesterday evening as a communiqué to Deputy Commissioner yesterday evening informed that the CMs programme to Kodagu is cancelled. MLA K.G.Bopaiah and other political leaders, who were behind the programmes were greately disappointed. The district incharge minister Ramachandra Gowda called Bopaiah and said that CMs programme is only postponed. Lakhs of rupees went in drain as invitations, arrangements and Shamiana was all set to accommodate CMs programme. Exact reason for the cancellation is not known. PHOTO: SHAMIANI BEING PACKED OFF FOUR LAKH WORTH IRON BARS RECOVERED;Police recovered four lakh worth iron bars stolen from Harangi reservoir from a Gujari shop at Mysore. The seizure came on the tip off given by the four thieves who stole them from the reservoir. The district crime branch police investigated the complaint by irrigation department and arrested four persons in connection with the theft. They suspect the involvement of at least six others and further investigation is on. According to police, the accused had sold 240 bars at Mysore and transported the remaining bars to Coimbatore. The iron bars sold to a factory at Coimbatore is reportedly melted. Police seized three Lorries and a tata sumo used for the crime. FAMILY CRICKET TO BE HELD;A month long family cricket will be held at Virajpet between April 22 and May 20. President of the Kodava Cricket academy, Carson Cariappa said in a press conference yesterday that about 200 Kodava family teams are expected to take part in the tournament. He informed that about seventeen registration centers are opened in the district for the families to register their names. The attraction of the tournament this year is the huge cash prize. The committee announced a cash prize of rupees fifty thousand for the first place and runners will get rupees twenty five thousand. The tournament will be held at the Pre university College grounds at Virajpet. |
