MINISTER LAYS FOUNDATIO STONE FOR CULTURAL HALL;Madikeri March 14, 2007 Kannada and Culture minister Mahadevprasad yesterday laid foundation stone for the cultural Hall to be built at school grounds, here. The minister said that the building built at a cost of rupees one crore is done on the occasion of Karnataka celebrating golden jubilee. He said that cultural halls are sanctioned only to Kodagu, Dharwad, Udupi, Gulbarga, Shimoga and Belgaum. About 52 border talukas will also get halls at a cost of forty lakhs. Other Cultural halls existing in Karnataka will also be modernized, he said. The cultural hall at Madikeri will accommodate 350 persons. It will also have offices of Kodava Academy and Kannada culture department. AIRPORT TO KODAGU;The district incharge minister Ramachandra Gowda disclosed in the function that the state has approved a mini airport to kodagu and the proposal is sent to center for approval. The air port will come up at Kushalnagar. He also said that railway line will be laid upto Kushalnagar and the proposals are being farwarded. Ramachandra Gowda stated that the state government is planning to start a Music Academy. Addressing a gathering MLA K.G.Bopaiah regretted that there is opposition to construct the hall in the existing spot. His remark came as large number of people including former minister M.C.Nanaiah opposed for the building to come up in the marked area. Foundation stone is laid at the school ground which has decade old history. Thusands of students from GMP school and Junior college use the ground. Even field marshal Cariappa used to play in the ground. But the district administration is trimming the size of the ground by constructing Urs Bhavan earlier and Cultural building,now. Pleas from the public to the Deputy Commissioner and MLA were ignored by them.MLC Arun Machaiah and others were present. RANJAN NOT TO ACCEPT VC POST;Appachu Ranjan, reduced to Vice chairman’s post from chairman’s seat in Sports Authority department has said that he will never accept the degraded post. Talking to scribes in an informal meeting yesterday, he stated that people of Kodagu are not used to accept such defeat and he will never go after the post. He confirmed that he has submitted resignation to the post of vice chairman. He clarified that he did not mean to annoy the government by exposing irregularities. REST HOUSE TO COME UP AT COLLEGE;District in charge minister ramachandra Gowda yesterday laid foundation stone for a rest house at Field marshal Cariappa College here. BJP president Sunil Subramani, MLA K.G.Bopaiah, Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University Kaverappa, Principal Pushpa Kuttanna was present. Earlier in the morning MC Nanaiah addressed the annual day function and said that lack of English knowledge is keeping youth at bay in IT sectors. He called upon the youth to increase English knowledge to compete with the world. MLC Arun Machaiah opined that Universities should bring change in the education system for the youth to adopt to the changing world scenario. MLA K.G.Bopaiah and others spoke on the occasion. |
