PEOPLE PROTEST POWER CUT;Madikeri March 22, 2007 Citizens of Madikeri led by Town Chamber of Commerce yesterday protested against unscheduled power cut. Going in a procession to the CHESCOM office the protestoprs shouted slogans and demanded relief from the power cut. CoC secretary G.Chidvilas lambasted the officials and said that officials who budge to the pressure of continuos protests if held at Mandya book case against local people here. He said that the appeals submitted to CHESCOM two months ago not to impose power cut was ignored by the concerned. Town Congress president K.M.B.Ganesh, Ullagaddi from CoC, J.B.Koti from Hotel Owners Association , Naveen, president of Town CoC , Leena, president of Mahilodaya and others spoke on the occasion and served an ultimatum of a week to rectify the fault. They demanded uninterrupted supply and said that the department has considered Kodagu as a rural area to impose power cut. Engineer K.Srinath and Suresh explained that there is heavy shortage of power and there are places where seven hour power cut is applied regularly. Three hour cut is applied at Udupi, Mangalore and Kodagu, they said. The protestors took the officials to task and said that the cut is applied as and when they wish. A call was given to people not to pay the bill, if power cut continues even after a week. DETEST FROM DIFFERENCE; MEDIA TOLDPresident of the state working journalists association, V.Venkatesh opined that media should keep away from difference of opinion and detest from posing filthy competition. Inaugurating roup insurance scheme programme for journalists at patrika Bhavan, he stated that the field of journalism is being spoiled by the attitude of competition by way of stamping one newspaper to raise the head of another. He called upon journalists to work unitedly. State association secretary, Munjane Satya told that the journalists in India are financially poor. He said that the journalists are rid of freedom and they should be provided with freedom to express freely and constitution should support it by bringing amendment. Satya also said that journalists should be provided with reserved constituency to contest elections and represent people at vidhana Soudha. Manager of Oriental Insurance company Vijendra Kumar explained the schemes available for the benefit of common people. Journalists association president K.K.Shashidar presided over. C.N.Somesh compeered the programme. Ravikumar welcomed the gathering s. C.N.Sunil Kumar proposed vote of thank. Presss club president H.T.Anil was present. |
