STUDENT COMMITTS SUICIDE;

A class ten student Anitha, 15 committed suicide by hanging at her house at Napoklu, yesterday.

Anithas, daughter of a teacher Yashoda and a bank employee Honnaiah was studying at Maruthi high school.

Reason for the suicide is not known. She bunked the class yesterday and committed the crime while her parents were not inside the house.

Police have registered a case.

POLICE DEPARTMENT TO PLAN CRACK DOWN;

The police department will speed up catching illicit liquor suppliers at Somwarpet.

Addressing a contact programme with the progressive daliths at Somwarpet, sub inspector Suresh Kumar heard that illicit liquor trade is going on in full swing at Somwarpet taluk. Daliths complained about the menace and said that the bootleggers are getting illicit liquor from cities and are selling it to villagers. Police and excise department are not bothered to stop them.

Reacting to the complaint police officer assured that intensive operation to curb the menace would begin from March. Shortage of police is acting as a hurdle to control the trade at present, he said.

Dalith leaders Jayappa Hangal, Nirvanappa and others were present.

COMMISSIONER ISSUED NOTICE;

The deputy commissioner Niranjan has issued notice to the CMC Commissioner Raya seeking explanation.

Explanation was sought from him for the failure in organizing Republic Day function properly. The function was in such a mess that the mike sets were brought after the flag hoisting, there was no jeep for parade and no other preparations were made. The function was conducted for name sake.

PLANTERS TO PICKET COFFEE BOARD;

Planters from Somwarpet taluk have decided to picket coffee board office at Bangalore on February 6 and 7.

Holding a meeting at Shanivarsanthe, president Nagappa said that the protest would be observed before Coffee Board to stress waiver of crop loan. Thousands of planters will take part in the protest, he said. The meeting decided to invite planters from all the villages to join them.

Meanwhile, the association members paid a surprise visit to all the coffee buyers at Shanivarsanthe and inspected the weighing scales. They found that the planters were cheated by the trders while weighing. Warning the traders against such practice they have decided to ask the weights and measures department to keep an eye on such traders.
