‘POLITICIANS, BUREUACRATES CHEAT MINORITIES’Madikeri February 6, 2008 Chairman of the Minorities commission, Dr.C.S.Dwarakanath alleged that the politicians and Bureaucrats have been cheating minorities of their rights to please the upper classes in India. Addressing a seminar organized by Codava national Council at Cauvery College, Gonicoppal, Dwarakanath said that census should be taken every ten years on the basis of castes and it is not being done 1931. He opined that the demands placed by Codava National Council are justified and said that local dialects should be respected hand in hand with the regional languages. Kodava language should be recognized, he urged. He said that the Commission has introduced many schemes to strengthen the status of minorities, a move which was not done since seventy years, he said. There are sixty parameters to decide a language minority and Kodava language could be considered, he said. He alleged that the local tribes are considered as westerners and the westerners are considered as citizens of India to strengthen Globalization. He appreciated Kodavas who have withstood the onslaughts by Lingayaths, British, Muslims and Christians. CNC president N.U.Nachappa placed a memorandum with six demands and said that his fight for the rights is not receiving justice due to apathy in state and center constitutions. Minority commission members M.S.halawar, Yoganandakumar, Mahantesh patil.Attikattige and Guruswamy were present. Nisha Achaiah invoked, Kokkalera Manju compered, machamada Anish welcomed, Ajjikuttira Lokesh welcomed. DC ASSURES PROPER DISTRIBUTION OF KEROCIN;The deputy Commissioner has assured to address shortage of power and Kerocin in the district. Addressing villagers at Kakkabe Gram Panchayath, the deputy commissioner listened to the complaints that the villagers are not getting Kerocin and also there is lots of power fluctuation. He said that the concerned departments would be alerted to attend to the complaints on priority. GP president Sabita Muthanna and congress leader B.T.Pradip explained the grievances of people. PROTEST BEFORE HOSPITAL;Members of many organisations today held a protest in front of Hospital at Sunticoppa. The protestors alleged that though the hospital should have three doctors, all the posts are vacant. They accused the vice president of Zilla Panchayath of canceling a posting with vested interest. They picketed the hospital demanding immediate posting of doctors. Sunticoppa is the only government hospital available for the residents of around eight villages and the protestors alleged that their plea before the departments for the posting of doctors have only hit deaf ears. |
