ANCIENT BURIAL FOUND

A stone axe wielded by students in a village led to five to six hundred year old burial!

The incident occurred in a small village called Bavali near Murnad.

A retired Superintendent of Police, Mukkatira Appaiah told this correspondent that he found children playing with a stone axe at Bavali. He sent that to Bangalore archeology museum and they predicted it to be quite old, five to six hundred years back.

Yesterday, the officer of Tippu sultan Museum at Srirangapattana, Nayakanda Vasu arrived at the spot. The spot where the axe was found was dug and it revealed amazing stone tombs. The tombs are about seven feet long and quite a few were found buried in the soil. Vasu told that the samples would be sent for further study and the results will yield the exact dates.

According to Appaiah, the villagers have been finding remains every now and then. Mud pots, stone bangles and statues have been found while digging the ground for constructions.

A Devi temple was also built in the area after a statue was found and astrologers predicted that a temple existed in the area during ancient period.

DEAD BODY FOUND;

A body of a woman floating in river Cauvery was found at Siddapur yesterday.

Police said that a hand bag found on the river bank had a hospital prescription with a name, Jaya, 38.

However the whereabouts of the lady is yet to be established.

TP ALLEGES KANNADA APATHY;

The Taluk Panchayath yesterday passed a resolution condemning the anti Kannada attitude of the district administration.

The members fumed against the district administration and said that it has brought out a tourism book in English, ignoring Kannada.

Member Nagesh Kundalpadi stated that the administration celebrating Rajyotsava has no meaning when it literally ignored Kannada in action.

President Napanda Kalappa stated that the Taluk Panchayath will celebrate national festivals separately in future. They also alleged that the admistration did not extend invitation to the Panchayath office bearers for the Rajyotsava celebration. Resoulution was passed to seek clarification from the deputy Commissioner.

Meanwhile, the meeting accused the concerned departments of ignoring child care and said that the salt supplied to Anganavadi does not contain iodine. President Kalappa directed the officials to visit hold an investigation along with the members and prepare a report.

Vice president Anand and executive officer Motappa were also present.
