NATIONAL LEVEL VOLLEY BALL

A National level volley ball tournament is organized at Kadanga in South Kodagu at a cost of rupees twenty lakhs.

Limra Friends association convenor Ismail from Kadanga told in a press conference here that the Indian Federation of Volley ball has organized the tournament with the sponsorship of Limra Friends.

He told that prizes worth rupees thirteen lakhs would be distributed to the winners. A gallery to hold ten thousand audiences will also be built at Vijaya high school grounds.

The tournament would be held from 14th April to 20th. He said that eight National teams of men and six of women teams will take part.

President kharim, General Secretary A.Mohammed Kunji and vice president Ballapanda Tittu were present in the press conference.

PROTEST BEFORE RAJBHAVAN;

Karnataka Rakshanapade from Shanivarsanthe will hold a protest before Rajbhavan in Bangalore on this 20th.

In a press note, Hosaralli Ganesh of Hosur branch stated that the protest is organized to urge the governor to stop illegal mining.

Ganesh said that illegal mining is going on in Shanivarsanthe and Hassan – Kodagu border. He alleged that houses in these areas are developing cracks, crops and plantations are being damaged and the people are facing life threat. Officials have been ignoring their appeal to stop mining.

OFFICIALS FACE ‘ARREST’

Forest officials in South Kodagu faced a 24 hour ‘arrest’ by the villagers who did not allow them to move out for 24 hours.

The villagers and peoples forum led by its president Katti Mandaiah blocked the officials inside the village, West Nemmale as they came to inspect a cow being attacked by a tiger.

The villagers are enraged as the tiger has been creating havoc in South Kodagu and the officials are not taking any action to curb it. Tiger has killed two cows belonging to one Manira Vijay Nanjappa in West Nemmale. Forest staff came in a jeep to inspect the staff the same day and the villagers surrounded them demanding the presence of higher officials.

Staff along with the jeep was not allowed to move till yesterday until the officials arrived. ACF Nagarajachar and RFO Gajanana Bhat arrived at the spot yesterday evening as they were out of station. Tension mounted as officials were a bit rude with the public. Intervention of police brought the situation under control Nagaraj stated that they cannot capture the tiger without the permission from the center. The issue would be discussed in the KDP meet, he said.

People let the officials and staff move out of the village only after they gave assurance in writing that they are responsible for any future incidents.

TORCH LIGHT PROTEST;

A torch light protest was held here yesterday night protesting against the CHESCOM negligence.

Deshapremi association and Kaveri extension association led the protest. Members holding burning torch took out a protest on the main streets and shouted slogans against the government and the department.

Protesters demanded that the power cut during examination should be stalled. Unscheduled cut should be stopped. Old poles should be replaced. Tree branches obstructing the wires should be chopped before monsoon.

Addressing public at the bustand, protestors cautioned the CHESCOM of severe protests if it continues lethargy.
