OPPOSITION WALKS OUT OF ZP MEETING;Madikeri February 27, 2008 The opposition members from BJP walked out of Zilla Panchayath meeting yesterday alleging inaction by the Zilla Panchayath in providing record of right to the encroachers. Raising the topic with a hot debate, the members Meenakumari, vice president B.C.Neelamma and others charged at the president by stating that she has ignored the decision of the last meeting and failed to provide records to the land holders of Devarakolli village. As a member pointed out that the earlier resolutions were not even mentioned in the proceedings book, members got furious, shouted slogans and walked out of the hall. About 150 families at Devarakolli hold no land record since years. Earlier, the opposition sat in the well alleging that the appointment of M.K.Nanjappa as the chairman of agriculture sub committee is illegal. Besides, the meeting passed a resolution to continue the education and health sub committees. The decision came even after canceling them in the last meeting, as member V.P.Shashidar termed cancellation as foolishness. Member Manu Uthappa raised a objection stating that there is provision for a protection committee to be formed and it is not done. He alleged the hand of officials who do not wish to have it. The other members also supported the view of the latter. DHO Rangaiah stated that the committee was formed to look after the affairs of the hospital. They have instruction not to include the members till the government is formed. The meeting chaired by president Deergakeshi Shivanna discussed various issues. CEO Sundar and other officials were present. KANTHI, MOINUDDIN HOLD VIRAJPET TP;JDS emerged triumphant as two of its candidates clinched the posts of president and vice president at Virajpet Town Panchayath. In a closely fought battle with uncertainty, JDS won both the seats after due agreement with congress. Kallira Kanthi Belliappa was elected as the president while Moinuddin is elected as the vice president. The JDs came to an agreement with congress to leave the post of vice president after nine months for its candidate to hold the reign. MLC Arun Machaiah played a major role at the background of the election. PARVATHI, MEHRUNNISA TO LEAD KUSHALNAGAR GP;Two candidates from congress held the reigns of Kushalnagar Gram Panchayath Surging through the strong opposition from within the party, Parvathi won seven votes against six by H.G.Kariappa of her own party in the secret ballot polled. Moinuddin won 11 votes against 5 from BJP candidate B.M.Kumar. DC ASSURES MONSOON INSURANCE;The deputy commissioner Niranjan has promised the coffee planters that he will try to see that the planters receive monsoon insurance due to them. He was addressing the planters at napoklu inspection bungalow, yesterday. Confusion raised in the meeting as the coffee board representatives said that they have received only 280 applications to claim rainfall insurance. The planters said that about 2800 applications are given, as per the statement of the village accountant jayalaxmi. Officals clarified that the remaining files are sent to Madikeri office. DC Niranjan assured to look into the matter and brought the situation under control. He assured to hold a Gramsabha soon. Various topics were discussed during the meeting. Planter B.T.Pradip briefed the DC about the problems faced by coffee planters. |
