A STATE OF ART BRIDGE IN THE OFFING

A state of Art Bridge is being constructed at Nellihudikeri providing link to many places of the district.

As the British built old bridge, which has seen 125 years is in danger, the much delayed new bridge at a cost of rupees 5.8 crores has received nod from the government and the work is in progress.

The work was started two three years ago and was stalled for no reason. Materials stored for the construction was swept away by floods during monsoon. Presently, the construction work is taken up by Gaman India Company from Mumbai with the effort of former MLAs K.G.Bopaiah and B.A.Jivijaya.

Bout sixty workers and a band of engineers are at work and they hope to complete the work at the earliest.

Talking to this correspondent, engineer Guru Prasad told that it is a bridge with just two pillars and cables. This is going to be the first of its kind bridge in Karnataka and third in India.

PLASTIC BANNED IN TOURIST SPOTS;

The deputy commissioner Niranjan has passed orders banning plastic in the entire tourist spots in Kodagu.

In a press statement released, he has said that the use of plastic is destroying the environment. He has instructed the officials to seize plastic bags, plates or cups being sold in such areas and also instruct the tourists not to use plastic.

Niranjan also disclosed that boards will be put up in tourist spots banning the use of plastic.

SCRIBE BOOKED ON CHARGES OF ATTEMPT TO RAPE;

Editor of Veeranadu weekly magazine and member of Virajpet taluk Panchayath, Addanda C.Cariappa and an accomplice Sara Chengappa are booked under different sections for threatening life and attempted rape.

A second division clerk at Zilla Panchayath, M.K.Devaki has lodged a complaint with the town police alleging that the duo blocked her way in the office premises on this 20th and attempted to rape her. Her life was also threatened, she has said in the complaint.

Police have registered case under sections 20/08,341,504,506,354,353 and 511 as per IPC.

URGE TO TRANSFER OFFICER

The Sarvajanika Hitarakshana Samity has urged the forest department to transfer DFO Suryadev Patak of Virajpet and also to control tiger menace.

The Samity president Katti Mandaiah stated in a press conference that the DFO has registered a case against a scribe and some of his members as they went to the latter’s office demanding protection from tigers prowling in South Kodagu.

They have given an ultimatum of thirty days and cautioned that intensive protests would be held if the officials fail to initiate action.

PROTESTORS PICKET PWD OFFICE

Villagers representing a clustre of villages in South kodagu today picketed Public works Bunder and rural water transport depatment office demanding road repair.

Protestors from Ballyamandur, Harihara, T Shettigeri and Birunani led by convenor of the Cauvery sene, ravi Chengappa picketed the office and shouted dlogans. protestors got enraged as the Executive Engineer was not in the office. they demanded his presence.

Budging to the presence, EE basappa appeared along with the assistant Executive engineer Sudindra Kumar from virajpet. Protestors shouted slogans against the officials and said that their roads are in a highly dilapidated state since four years and no action was initiated to repair them since then. They did not agree to to withdraw protest unless they receive written assurance.

EE Basappa finally agreed to begin repair work from tomorrow and gave it in writing.

Villge heads Titira Kashi, Mukkatira Shambu, Buttiyanda tambi nanaiah and others were present.
