VEHICLE COLLISION: ONE DIE

Madikeri Jan. 6 one middle aged person died, two including a nursery kid seriously injured in head on collision between a Maruthi Car (CNZ 3535) and Hero Honda Bike KA 1, h 8843) at Thathanda motte village near Virajpet.The bike rider Chappanda Dilip (42) died on the spot. The pillion riders Karetira Ganesh and his 5 year old nursery going child Girish got serious injuries. The boy suffers from leg and hand fracture. Police registered a case against the car driver Koluvanda Muthanna.

BAIL FOR 24 ACTIVISTS

Madikeri Jan. 6: Bail granted for 24 Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists.The accused were arrested and were under judicial custody after they trespassed the Chowrira family house supporting the kannada Mutt Swamiji. The land dispute was the cause. Virajpet Principal Munsiff judge M.H.Shantha ordered for bail. The accused include P.Krishnappa of vedike. Channa Basva Swamiji was released on bail a day before.

TIGER ATTACKING HERDS

Madikeri Jan. 6: Second attack on two cows by a wild tiger in South Kodagu is reported from East Nemmale village Shrimangala. Last two nights two cows were killed and swallowed by the wild tiger. The cows belong to Mundumada Chippa Aiyanna and Somashekhar.The tiger entered the cow shed and attacked. The villagers fear about the tiger which is seen wandering during day time also in the village area. A few days back an incident of attack on cows had been reported. The villagers already complained to the forest department to take immediate step to drag the animal. But, the officials are deaf to hear the grievances. BJP leader H.N.Ramesh and Chamber of commerce office bearer Surath Subbaiah have warned the forest department that they have to face protest from the people if they continue the same negative attitude.

Rs. 884 LAKH FOR ROAD DEVELOPMENT

Madikeri Jan.6 The state Govt. has released Rs. 884 lakh for the development of 159.20 K.ms in South Kodagu. This was announced by M.L.C Arun Machaiah in a press conference held at Gonikppal.

The roads are damaged by heavy rain and will be repaired with pothole closure and tarring before march end-Arun explained.

The funds are released from Chief minister’s road fund, Central Road fund, Nabard and special component schemes. The details of the proposed road repair is as follows

Ammathi- Murnad Rs. 20 lakh, Siddapur –Pollibetta Rs. 99 lakh,Ammathi-Thithimathi Rs. 210 lakh,Kutta-Nagarahole Rs. 85 lakh,Chennangolli-Balele Rs. 15 lakh, Virajpet-ontiangadi Rs. 25 lakh,Kadanga-Bellumadu-Napoklu Rs. 45 lakh,Shettigeri-Marenadu Rs. 40 lakh,Birunani-Parakatageri Rs.Rs. 25 lakh,Bittangala –Kutiala Rs. 15 lakh,Nagarahole –Murkal Rs. 75 lakh,Thithimathi-Konanakatte Rs. 10 laklh,Kannambadi-Devarapura-Kallalla road Rs. One crore,Balele-Murkal Road Rs. 50 lakh,Kanur-Kembukolli Rs.83 lakh,Virajpet-Karada Rs.15 lakh,

All these works will be carried by PWD department. The remaining 159.20 K.m road repair in Virajpet thaluk further requires Rs. 1275 lakhs-Arun told. Attempt is made to get the sanction through PWD- he disclosed
