UNTOUCHABILITY, CURSE TO DALITHS;

Untouchability is a curse to daliths and the society should eradicate it through the implementation of teachings of Dr.Ambedkar, said K.Shivram, commissioner of Lokashikshana.

Addressing a rally at Shanivarsanthe to mark the 51st death anniversary of Dr.Ambedkar, Shivaram stated that the most hated enemies of India are untouchability and inequality. Daliths should overcome inferiority complex enveloping them since decades. Real religion is the one which preaches humanity and we find it in Buddism, he opined. The rally was co incised with the one year of embracing Buddism in parts of Kodagu. The rally was tittled “Buddanedege, Maralimanege”.

Poet Mudnakoodu Chinnaswamy asserted that democracy is yet to take roots in India. People in lower rung are yet to get their rights and basic demands. People shall over come suppression only through knowledge and pondering, he said. He urged Daliths to inculcate ‘panchasheela’ principles of Budda in life.

Vice president of Zilla Panchayath, Rajamma Rudraiah, former president Jayamma, member Rajarao, Taluk Panchayath president Geetha Basappa and others spoke on the occasion. State convenor Narayana nagavara presided over the function.

LORRY OWNERS THREATEN PROTEST;

Lorry owners and drivers have threatened to hold protest if the Mysore high way is not repaired.

In a letter to deputy commissioner they have stated that the high way leading to Mysore from Kushalnagar is in a dilapidated condition, incurring loss and inconvenience. Officials have been escaping from their responsibilities by giving silly reasons.

Association president Swamy in his letter to the deputy Commissioner has urged him to instruct the department to make the roads motorable immediately. If their request is not fulfilled, they will have to stage a protest, he has cautioned.

VILLAGERS APPEAL TO FOREST DEPARTMENT;

The villagers of mekur Hoskeri near Pollibetta have appealed to the forest department to curb elephant menace.

Planter Nel;lamakkada Appachu has said that a herd of elephants including a calf are roaming freely inside his estate and have damaged coffee, paddy and arecanut. This has been the case each year and the department has not done any thing to stop the menace. I have so far incurred a loss more than rupees two lakhs, he has said.

The other planters have told that the workers are not prepared to work in their estates for the fear of elephants and they are facing multiple problems.

SWEATERS DISTRIBUTED;

The Zilla Panchayath president Deergakeshi Shivanna distributed sweaters to the inmates of ‘Ashakirana’ school at Hudikeri.

In a function held at the school to mark the new year, about 51 children were gifted sweaters worth rupees six thousand.

Taluk Panchayath president arita Poonacha, member Achuta and others were present.
