SOLDIER DIES IN JAMMU;

A soldier from Kodagu, serving at Jammu died of illness.

According to information received by the members of the family, Chottepanda P.Kushalappa, 36 succumbed to illness in a hospital, yesterday.

Kushalappa was serving as a truck driver in the CRPF since 17 years and only two more years were left for retiring. He was hospitalized due to illness since few days and the death message was received by his parents.

He leaves wife and a child. The body will arrive in Kodagu in two days, according to information. The cremation would be held at his residence at B.Shettigeri.

SPORTS SCHOOLS IN THE STATE TO BE DEVELOPED;

Advisor to Governor, P.H.K.Tarakan has said that all the sports schools in the state would be developed in phases.

Tarakan was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the second day programme of platinum jubilee of spots school at Kudige yesterday.

He stated that priority would be given to sports schools to produce better sports persons’ in order to compete in the Olympics. Improving sports schools is the only solution to present better performance at Olympics, he opined.

Retired IGP Anandan spoke as a chief guest and said that the government should chalkout programmes to provide better facility and future assurances as they may shift to better options. He appreciated Sports school at Kudige for its achievements.

MLC Arun machaiah addressed the gathering and urged the government to form an Astro Turf ground at Kudige. Commissioner Amarkumar Pandey spoke on the occasion. M.P.Ganesh unfurled the achievements of the sports school.

TV MEDIA CONTROLS CRIME RATE;

Girish rao, associate magazine editor of Kannada Prabha said here that the crime rate is coming down due to the fear of TV media.

Addressing the gathering as a chief guest during the inauguration of TV Media Association at Madikeri, he opined that the police had failed to control crime rate by covering such incidents. But the TV media is exposing the type of crimes to public and the society, fearing adverse publicity is reducing crimes.

He advised the TV media not to give undue publicity when families are in pain. Instead, give them publicity when there is some achievement in the family, he said.

Vice president of Zee TV kannada, Dr.Goutham machaiah regretted that the district lacks peoples proper reaction to problems in Kodagu. He said that while the newspapers highlight the local problems, TV media takes it to the world.

President H.T.Anil presided over. Vice president Sreedhara Nellithaya spoke about the aims of the newly formed association.

TAXIES TO GO OFF ROAD;

The taxies in the district will go off the roads from tomorrow in support of the state wide lorry strike.

Lorry strike has entered the second day today with the members of lorry association blocking stray Lorries trying to ply within the district or trying to cross it.

Private bus owners have also extended their support and said that they will take some time to go off the road after watching the development. Lorry strike has affected life in many ways. Those who depend on Lorries for their livelihood are also worried with no money in their pocket.

KDP DECIDES TO BLOCK SAND LIFTING;

The Zilla Panchayath has decided to block sand lifting from cauvery basin as protests are going on in parts of Kodagu against it.

The members of the cauvery Sene, led by its convenor Ravi Chengappa barged into the old assembly hall where KDP meeting was going on. Ravi Chengappa charged at the members and president deergakeshi Shivanna for not listening to the grievance of the people who were demanding stoppage of sand lifting.

The president assured to stop sand lifting temporarily and appealed to the deputy Commissioner to pass on order to this effect.

Some of the members took strong objection to the public barging into the meeting hall. Member sanjay Jeevijaya said that proper security should be arranged to members while conducting meetings.
