CHAMBER PROTESTS AGAINST CHESCOMMadikeri January 26, 2008 Members of the Chamber of commerce and public staged a protest agaist CHESCOM at Siddapur and served ultimatum. Protestors rounded up the CHESCOM office and shouted slogans against the department. They alleged that the department is applying unscheduled cuts and students appearing for the examination are suffering. Several appeal to stop unscheduled power cuts yielded no fruit, they said. CoC secretary Satya, BJP vice president Prabhakar and others demanded that executive engineer from madikeri should come and assure them. Hell broke loose as they heard that the engineer is not receiving telephone call. The protest was temporarily called off by telling that the department should set right the power problem in 24 hours. They cautioned the department that the protest would be intensified if the officials ignore their demand once again. TIGER MENACE CONTINUES;The tiger menace which had thinned down since few weeks in South Kodagu has returned. According to a complaint by Kolera Nanda Subbaiah, a tiger has killed his cow on this 24th during day time at Kumatur near Srimangala.. The tiger attacked the pregnant cow while it was grasing in a meadow. The residents have complained that the forest department is doing nothing to capture the tiger, though it has killed dozens of live stock since a year in South Kodagu. Forest officals visited the spot. Autopsy was conducted at the spot. PROTEST AGAINST KODAVA ACADEMY IN BANGALORE;A protest is organized at Bangalore against the misdeeds of kodava Academy. President of Kodava Thakkh Janangakarada okkuta, Addanda C.Kariappa and president of Kirgur Gram panchayath, Sara Chengappa have called a press conference and said that they have planned to stage a protest demanding action against Kodava Academy in Bangalore on this 12th. They alleged that the president of the academy, Dotty povaiah was involved in forging signatures to create fake vouchers and also indulged in printing lottery tickets against the norms. Complaints were lodged against her in police stations and she is absconding. All the members of the academy have resigned, fed up of controversies. The registrar is appearing in the office only to draw the salary. I.M.Vittala Murthy and Manu Baligar were explained about the misdeeds. Inspite of all this, investigation from the side of the government has not begun. Even the Governor was briefed about the illegal dealings through letter, they said. If the government fails to initiate immediate action, a protest would be organized before Kannada Bhavan in Bangalore on this 11th, they informed. REPUBLIC DAY IN KODAGUMadikeri Jan..26 Kodagu Deputy Commissioner K.R.Niranjan today hoisted flag to commemorate republic day in Man’s compound ground, Madikeri.He recalled the contribution of freedom fighters to Indian independence. The first independence day was celebrated during 1930 January 26th as per the resolution passed in Lahore congress conference announcing complete autonomous of “Swarajya”. To remember this sweet memories during 1950 January 26th the constitution was implemented..India was announced as secular, democratic republican ,socialistic country --Niranjan analysed. D.C.Niranjan received guard of honour. S.P.Sandeep Patil and Zilla panchayath president Deerghakeshi Shivanna participated. The district administration has to face criticism from the public for not properly arranging mike systems. Mike was being fixed during last moment which was not hearing. Further, the open jeep was missing to move towards the place of guard of honour. Niranjan has to walk towards the venue to receive the honour.
