STUDENT DIES OF POISON;

Madikeri January 31

A student drinking water with his hand after touching pesticides succumbed to poison at Gonicoppa yesterday.

A seventh standard student of St.Thomas school, Vidyasagar, 13 was staying at home since three days as he had fever and stomach ache. A pesticides container kept on his window sill tumbled down and the pesticides spilled out. The boy reportedly began to fill it back in hand. But he felt nausea and wanted to drink water. Using the same hand, he collected water and drank. He fell unconscious and the fmily members who noticed him with a delay shifted him to hospital.

He however died in the hospital and the doctors said that he had reached an irreparable stage.

The incident was reported from Konanakatte near Gonicoppa. He is the son of waterman in Mayamudi Gram Panchayath.

CULTURAL TEAM TO VISIT JAMMU;

A thirty member team of youth led by three leaders is traveling to Jammu and Kashmir for a 13 day stay.

The deputy commissioner Niranjan addressed the group living for the trip and told that exchanging culture strengthens bond.

The team led by Rani Machaiah and two others will take part in the cultural programmes and visits from February three to sixteenth. The members are all from Kodagu and a similar team of youth had come from Jammu to Kodagu during last year.

TRIBES OPPOSE TIGER PROJECT;

The tribes association has opposed the government supported tiger projects inside the forests and said that such activities will curtail their freedom.

Addtressing a press conference here, the tribal association president Raju said that the project is formed by the fake environmentalists with the governments support and it is detrimental to the forest and forest dwellers, including wild life.

He alleged that the government has failed to implement the projects Okayed by the president of India to support the tribes by forming local committees. Whereas it is interested in damaging their ideals by introducing tiger project and others.

Raju cautioned that he will approach legal authorities and try to stop tiger project.

TARUN SAMAVSH;

The Vishwa Hindu parishad has planned a mega ‘Tarun samavesh’ at Madikeri.

The office bearers of VHP told here that the samavesh to be held at Madikeri on February 2nd and 3rd will attract around ten thousand youngsters from Kodagu.

The youth would be adviced to take an undertaking to spare atleast one hour a day in the service of the nation.

Processions and lectures are planned during the two day meet.

STATE LEVEL KARATE;

Madikeri January 31

A state level Karate competition would be held at Shanivarsanthe from 1st to 3rd February.

The organizers said that the Okinova School of martial Arts is holding the competition and champions from all over the state will take part in it.

Sadashiva Swamy of Kirigody Mutt will inaugurate. C.G.mahadevaswamy, state association member will be present as chief guest.

WIFE MURDERED: HUSBAND ARRESTED

Subramani(26) of Kolathodu-Bygodu village near Virajpet murdered his Bebi (23) using wooden club. Yesterday night he came havily drunkan and quarreled with his wife for not preparing food.Then he hit on her head and killed her opn the spot.The mother left her 5 months old child.

KAVERI SENE FIRM IN PROTEST

Madikeri Jan. 31 Kaveri Sene an organization fighting for the salvation of Kodagu district problems has already succeeded in stopping all hydal electicity project proposals in Kodagu. The projects were entirely depended on the water sources in Kodagu .These source are now used by the local residents for drinking and irrigation purposes. All the hydal based electricity production projects are now stopped after strong protest by the organization with the help of local residents. Now kaveri Sene organization has taken up another major issue. It is protesting against the High tension installations passing through Kodagu district to meet the electricity demands of Kerala residents. Damages to estate, bad affect on people and animals due to high power, risk of electric shock especially during rainy season are the major points to oppose the project.

Kaveri sene headed by its’ convener Ravi Chengappa has started “Padayathre” from Maldare.village two days back. The Yathre has crossed Goinikoppal, Besagur and Kanur.villages Today the Yathre reached Kutta, the Kodagu-Kerala border area. The main aim of the yathre is to create public awareness about the bad consequences of high tension power. The organization resolved to step into II nd stage of protest if the Govt. does not consider their peaceful appeal said organization head Ravi Chengappa talking to times. He clearly opined that there is n o question of withdrawing from the movement at any cost. The protest will be ended only when the Govt withdraws the project .he confirmed
