TIGER KILLS CATTLE;Madikeri November 24, 2007 A tiger in Pollibetta area is creating tension and has killed cattle. Guddanda Monnappa of Chennayyana kote near Pollibetta has lodged a complaint with police and forest departments stating that cattle was found killed by a tiger inside his estate. Carcass of the cattle was found in his estate and pug marks of the tiger could be seen all over. Forest officials who visited the spot said that the cattle must have been killed two days ago. The residents living around Pollibetta has complained that the tiger is seen roaming inside their plantations, creating fear. Estate workers are afraid to attend to their work and children who have to cross estates are not going to schools for the fear of tiger. THIEVES SENTENCED;Thieves breaking a house and a temple at Madikeri are sentenced by court here. H.M.Krishna, Jogi Umesh and Jogi Nagaraj are charged with breaking into house and temple here and stealing cash and gold are sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for four years and to pay a fine of rupees two thousand each. The accused broke into the house of an assistant sub inspector Balakrishna on 4.3.04 and decamped with cash rupees 11,500 and jewellery worth rupees 41,700. Again on 17.3.04 they broke into Kundurumotte Sri Mariamma temple and decamped with jewellery worth rupees 85,000 and cash rupees 7,851 from the hundi. Civil and JMFC judge Indira Chettiar listened to the case and pronounced the judgement. BOY ARRESTED IN MURDER CASE;The taluk police have arrested a boy in connection with the case of murdering a youth, Darshan during first week of this month. Darshan’s body was found at Kootupole reservoir at Gaalibeedu on 9th. Though the case was considered as suicide at first, it was later established as murder. Wounds were found on the head and shoulder. It was caused by hitting him with a bar or so. He was killed and dumped into the river. It was suspected that Darshan owned two hand sets and one of them; he had given to a friend. He told his parents that he would get the sell from his friend and stayed away from house for a couple of days. He had been telling that he is staying with a friend. Investigation is on. PROTEST AGAINST GAS DISTRIBUTION;People staged a protest against non co operation from the distributors of cooking gas cylinders and submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner. A group of people met Deputy Commissioner at his office yesterday and complained that rural people are not getting proper supply even if they apply in advance. Councillors Chummi Devaiah, Aiyappa and others led the protest and said that the distributors at Madikeri are harassing people in the name of numbers on the cylinder and delaying tactics. Deputy Commissioner assured to call the distributors and advice them to provide service to people. |
