STATE BAR COUNCIL URGES ACTION AGAIANST SI;Madikeri March 11, 2008 The state BAR council has urged the DGP, state to initiate immediate action against the Sub Inspector of Siddapur, facing criminal charges. BAR council has sent a copy of the FIR to DGP and stated that the Sub Inspector santosh of Siddapur police station has beaten advocate Pemmaiah inside the lockup and forced him to touch the feet of the accused and apologize. He was also threatened to be killed. Sating that society will not be in safe hnds under such officials, immediate action against him is urged. Meanwhile, the BAR association, Virajpet has been abstaining from the proceedings at the court since three days in protest and hopes that the state police will initiate action in a day or two. FIRE GAINS MOMENTUM;Forest fire which was being quelled has gained momentum and is raging again in many forests. Forest and fire departments have been fighting to quell the fire which is moving with the winds causing panic. Fire at Nagarahole is said to be under control, while it is raging at Anekadu area. Fire is also reported at mountain ranges in Madikeri and other places. While animals are in danger, some of the families living on hillocks are also facing danger. GOVERNEMT PLEADER APPOINTED;Advocate George Joseph is appointed as a Public prosecutor. George Joseph was practicing law since 28 years at Madikeri and is appointed to the prestigious post which was vacant. RANI MACHAIAH RECEIVES AWARD;Rani machaiah if Madikeri has received state folk art award. Rani Machaiah received the award in Bangalore recently in a function organized by the State Folk and yakshagana Academy on the occasion of its silver jubilee celebrations. Rani Machaiah has been involved in the development of folk art in the district and has performed in parts of India, including at Jammu and Kashmir along with her group. |
