SIDDAPUR BANDH HELDMadikeri March 13 Different organizations today held a protest against the tainted suspension of Sub inspector Santosh and observed Siddapur Bandh. Led by Cauvery Sene, different organizations had been opposing filing of case against the sub inspector Santosh for his alleged attack and threatening of an advocate inside the lock up, recently. Shops and business establishments were closed and a protest meeting was held in the town. Later a memorandum was submitted to the police chiefs to reinstate him. The protestors alleged that the advocate and his accomplices had trespassed into an estate and kidnapped a family of laborers. They lodged a counter complaint against the sub inspector in order to hide their crime. Suspension of a sincere officer leads to demoralization of the department, they added. Convenor of Cauvery Sene, Ravi Chengappa, P.R.Bharath, B.Y.Ravindra,N.D.Kuttappa of Nagarika Horata Samity and others addressed the gathering. SI Santosh was booked after attacking advocates Pemmaiah recently. BAR association, Virajpet had been boycotting the court proceedings for four days till yesterday urging the suspension. DIG ordered suspension of Santosh yesterday. DID BIRD FLU ATTACK KODAGU?While the world is fearing the attack of bird flu elsewhere, The department of animal husbandry in Kodagu is cautious about the suspicious death of birds in Kodagu. The assistant director of Animal husbandry, Dr.Rajshekar told the Taluk Panchayath meet yesterday that they have detected three cases of birds dying suspiciously. He said that they have sent the samples to state lab to trace the cause of death. He informed that the department is not taking any chances and is visiting all the villages every week and testing the blood of the birds. Meanwhile, president of the Taluk Panchayath, Napanda Kalappa directed the officials to take up drinking water works on priority. He urged the CHESCOM officials to provide connection to all the water schemes. Replying to a query, the assistant executive engineer Suresh told the meeting that they have already connected most of the schemes and only four connections have to be given. Kalappa urged the officer not to effect power cut in the district where the payment of bill is hundred percent. Suresh said that there is a shortage of 22 MW of power and 45 minutes power cut is inevitable. However he said that power cuts automatically due to over load and it will be rectified after the repair of power units in the district. TIGER ATTACK CONTINUES;As a shame to the department, the tiger has been repeating its kill in south Kodagu. Though the forest department is boasting itself of capturing the tiger, people are losing their live stock each day in south Kodagu. The tiger attacked a herd of gracing cows at teralu village in South Kodagu and killed a cow on the spot. People have complained that the tiger has killed four cows in a matter of five days. The forest department is doing nothing to capture the tiger except by keeping one bone somewhere. |
