HIGH COURT JUDGENMENT FAVOURS Z.P.POWER

Madikeri March 16 The recent high court judgment favours the highest power for implementing 12th finance schemes in the district levels. This includes the rural road improvement. The Govt had withdrawn the power from the elected body and announced the transfer of rural road development projects directly to the Z.P., engineering division. The projects were implemented by the respective executive engineers in the districts without consent from the Z.P.elected body as per the Govt. order dated 27-6-2007.

The Mysore Z.P.members had questioned the Govt’s decision and had moved in the state high court. They argued that the power should be retained with the elected representatives and requested to recuperate the power for smooth administration. The high court judge Ashok B.Henchiger has recently announced the transfer of power to elected body from the engineering division. He mentioned that the Govt order had cut down the powers to the elected representatives gained through the decentralization system. The Judgment has enabled the implementation of projects through Z.P.elected body in all the districts in Karnataka.
