STUDENT DIES IN BIKE MISHAPMadikeri February 12, 2009 A first PUC student at Kaakur village in South Kodagu died and another was injured seriously as the scooter they were riding skidded. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening at Srimangala. Student Mukkatira B.Ponnappa and his friend, a sales man Chokira Ramesh were traveling in the scooter as the incident occurred. It is not clear who was riding the scooter. Passers by observed the duo sprawled on the road in an unconscious condition. They were immediately shifted to a hospital at Mysore. Ponnappa died at night and Roshan is struggling for life. Police have registered a case. DISTRICT BAGS FOUR AWARDSThe state union of working journalists association has announced the list of awards given to journalists and four have fallen on the lap of Kodagu. Kodagu, which bags most of the state awards in the field of journalism has yet again received four more awards. Editor of brahmagiri weekly Ulliyada Poovaiah has received ‘badrinath Hombale award’. Editor of Shakthi kannada daily, G.Rajendra has received D.V.G.Award, sub editor of shakthi daily, Kudekal Santosh has received Scoop report award and, Udaya TV reporter Anil H.T.has received best picture report published in Taranga weekly. The awards would be distributed during the state level journalist’s conference to be held at Madikeri on 21st and 22nd, next week. The chief minister Yediyurappa would be inaugurating the conference. TIGER WITH CUBS NOTICEDA tiger playing with its two cubs were noticed in south kodagu recently. A traditional doctor Ramu happened to notice the trio as he was walking towards the forest to trace his cow near Hudikeri. Escaping from the scene, Ramu has informed the forest officials about the presence of the tiger and its cubs. “I did notice them, luckily they did not notice me’ he said after his return to the village. |
