TWIN DISTRICTS GET SET FOR THE LOKSABHA POLL;

Twin districts Mysore and Kodagu are getting ready for the Loksabha election.

Mysore district Deputy Commissioner Manivannan is appointed as the election officer, while assistant commissioner from Kodagu, Akram Pasha and Food and Civil Supplies assistant director Shankarappa are appointed as the assistant election officers. Akram Pasha will be in charge of Madikeri constituency and Shankarappa will be in charge of Virajpet constituency.

A high level meeting was held at Mysore yesterday involving officials from the two districts and discussions were held to hold the poll in a smooth and peaceful manner.

The district officials were given video cameras and asked to provide the pictures of election booths. Officials were asked to verify the condition of the booths. They are empowered to change the booths in case, if the booth does not have electricity connection, proper doors and windows. The district administration is asked to repair the booths if required. The election officers are asked to have the list of polling officials and staff ready. Police officials were asked to mark the booths as sensitive and supersensitive after watching previous records.

Prersence of government employees would be made compulsory in the election and they will also be asked to work outside their districts in case of its requirement. Spectral magistrates would be appointed to monitor each police station and they would be given power to guide during law and order situation.

Kodagu is released rupees 7.5 lakhs to buy walkie – talkies to monitor the election in a more responsible and efficient manner.

Assistant commissioner Akram pasha informed here that the identity card is a must in the coming election. He said that the pictures of the voters will also be printed in the voters list. The voter’s lists would be printed both in Kannada and English.

He has appealed to voters to approach booth level officials to get their names enrolled and identity cards given before the polls. One more, last opportunity would be provided to the voters to get their pictures taken for the card, soon, he said.

CONGRESS URGES FOR CANDIDATE FROM KODAGU

The district congress workers have urged the high command to field a candidate from Kodagu for the coming Lokh Sabha election.

They placed their demand as former minister and congress leader D.B.Chandregowda arrived at Somwarpet and addressed the gathering yesterday. They also expressed dissatisfaction over the attitude of state leaders who make it a point to visit the district only when the elections are round the corner.

Chandregowda spoke on the occasion and said that the party should be strengthened and the sentiments of the workers would be shared with the state leaders. He regretted that the district congress leaders who sit together for meetings have large differences within.

He advised the leaders and workers to strive for the success of the congress candidate contesting polls.

RANI AS KODAVA ACADEMY CHAIRPERSON;

Rani Machaiah from Madikeri has been nominated as the chairperson of Kodava Academy. The place was vacant after the previous president Dotty Poovaiah had to quit with corruption charges and dissolve the committee. Large scale misappropriation was alleged during her term and inquiry is instituted. Criminal cases were filed against her by an academy member Addanda C.Carioappa and she was on the run for a long time till she could get bail.

Others appointed as members are Bacharaniyanda Ranu Appanna, Kalapanda Palangappa, Ponnira Prabhu Kaverappa, mandepanda Geetha Mandanna, Kudiyara Karumbaiah, C.N.Somesh, Hodavada Aiyappa, Mandepanda Vittal belliappa and Pandinjaranda Prabhukumar.

MEMBERS APPOINTED FOR MADYAYMA ACADEMY

The government has released the list of members appointed for madyama Academy.

D.P.Paramesh was already appointed as the chairman of the Madyuama Academy.

The members are , B.G.Anantha Shayana, joint editor, Shakthi daily, Rajashekara Koti, editor of Andolana, Mysore, H.S.Sudindrakumar, president of the KUWJ, Gangadhar Mudaliar, general secretary of the KUWJ, Venkata Lakshmaiah, H.G.Shobha, Shivanandan, B.C.Kulakarni, N.Raju and M.S.Mani .
