INDIA YET TO CATCH UP IN SCIENCE RESEARCH;Madikeri January 4, A scientist par excellence hailing from India and settled in America, Dr.Moodera Jagadish told that India is yet to catch up with the world, as far as the science is concerned. Dr.Jagadish who was recently awarded ‘Oliver E Buckley’ award by American Physics Society was in Kodagu and spoke to this correspondent. A native of Kodagu, he has been working with MIT, Massachusetts Institute of Science since 27 years as the head of Thin Film magnetism Tunneling and Nano Sprintonics group. His wife Dr.Berera Geetha is also working there as a lecturer in physics. He has received the award for his breakthrough in electronic spins which helps store communications and memory in chips being used in computers, cell phones, digital cameras and other electronic equipments. Spin technology consumes less power and non volatile. Asked why he did not choose India for research, so that the mother land would have benefited through his expertise, Dr.Jagadish said that the scope and facilities available in America is not possible to get in India and it is yet to catch up with the world. The cutting edge researches are yet to take place here, he opined. Dr.Jagadish told that India needs to propagate to the new generation the science based advantages. Children here are moving away from science and the teachers have to take more interest. Science should be taught with more interest, faith, sincerity and inspiration, he said. Stating that the notion that a student has to study in a costly college or school to hit the top in any field should be discarded, he gave his own example and said that his education was done in simple schools at Madikeri, Virajpet and Mysore. He informed that he intends to start a Visionary School at Madikeri. He wants the students to choose the line of learning in the school and they will be taught the same to turn them into leaders in their own field. Dr.jagadish is the second Indian to receive the above prestigious award. He has also received American Competitiveness and Innovation Award, two months ago. Photo: Dr. Jagadish GOLDEN JUBILEE MEETIING HALL CONSTRUCTION SOONMadikeri Jan.5: Golden jubilee meeting hall will be constructed soon in Madikeri-disclosed Jayaramaraje urs, secretary for Kannada Culture department at Kushalnagar. He was speaking at Kushalnagar after inaugurating Kuvempu birthday celebrations. The hall will be constructed in the City municipal office premises he said.. Replying to a question, he told that Kodava Sahithya academy would be reconstituted. The department will conduct enquiry about the previous administration irregularities-he added. Kuvempu’s contribution to Kannada literature is ever remembering -urs opined. Prof. H.S.venkatesh, famous poet opined that Kuvempu had served for the merging of scattered Kannada regions through his literature revolution..Kuvempu trust chairman Hampa.
