ASSAULT ON Z.P.MEMBER: ATROCITY CASE BOOKEDMadikeri Jan. 7: The standing committee meeting of Z.P. held here today. A heating argument between two Z.P. members turned to uproar scene and ultimately ended in assault of the standing committee chairman who belongs to scheduled caste. The meeting of the Social managing committee of the Zilla panchayath headed by Rajarao of BJP was held here today in old assembly hall to discuss the developments of Morarji school at Kushalnagar and Ekalavya school at Thithimathi. The Chief executive officer A.S.Ramchandrappa presided. When the discussion was going smooth, the committee member and Z.P. member from Kushalagar V.P.Shahsidhar who recently joined congress from JDS raised a subject about other schools in the district in addition to the above two schools .Rajarao, the standing committee chairman objected and opined that the committee has the restricted power and only empowered to discuss about the two schools and not other schools which will not come under this committee’s purview. However, Shashidhar continued his talk about the same subject which enraged the chairman. When he raised objection it is alleged that Shashidhar rushed towards him and assaulted him on the neck portion. The injured Rajarao is admitted to the district hospital for treatment. Case is booked against Shashidhar under sections 323,427 and 506 and police have taken him to custody for detail enquiry.Primarily atrocity case is registered. PHOTOS1. INJURED RAJARAO IN HOSPITAL 2. ACCUSED SHASHIDHAR IN POLICE CUSTODY “CALCIUM HELPS PLANTS MAKE THEIR OWN ASPIRIN”Madikeri January 6 Calcium builds strong bones, good teeth and also healthy plants, according to a new study from Washington State University. The Regents’ Professor in WSC, Dr.Bachettira Poovaiah told this correspondent in an interview here today that his team has made a breakthrough in this line and found a solution to develop resistance in plants. Experiments show that calcium, when bound to protein called calmodulin, prompts plants to make salicylic acid (SA) has been known for more than hundred years said Poovaiah, who is also the director of the study, but the role of calcium in signaling the plant to make SA has not been known before. “We are now beginning to understand the molecular mechanism connecting the calcium /calmodulin signaling to plant immunity “said Poovaiah who is also a member in the Department of Horticulture. The study appears in the issue of the journal nature, he informed. The group has found out that the SA produces immunity in the plants which fights diseases. Earlier yesterday, Dr.Poovaiah was felicitated at Ponnampet Forestry College by Agricultural Sciences Forum of Kodagu (ASFK) and Kodagu Model Forest Trust (KMFT) Mr. C.A. Ponnappa, President, ASFK presided over the function. Dr. N.A. Prakash, Director of Instruction (Forestry), College of Forestry and Chairman Technical Committee, KMFT was the guest of honor. PROTEST AGAINST A MAGAZINE;Members of different organizations, auto drivers association in a large number held a protest before police station yesterday and demanded action against the editor of a weekly magazine. The protestors condemned an article and said that it defamed the girls of Kodagu, auto drivers, taxis public, Home Stays and lodges. Police received the complaints from the protestors and registered a case against the editor Vasanth under sections 209 and 509. |
