FIFTH IN THE ROW; TUSKER CAPTUREDMadikeri January 9, 2009 The forest department has succeeded in capturing another tusker, fifth in line yesterday at Maldare forests. The team of forest sleuths found two tuskers with a calf in the morning. Keeping track of them, they shot a tranquilizer by ten at one tusker. The tusker sprawled on the ground after running for about two kilometers. The tamed team of elephants rounded up the tusker and succeeded in bringing it to Dubare elephant camp. The tamed elephant Abhimanyu was injured by the wild tusker which was trying to escape from the clutches of its intruders. In spite of an injury in the eye, Abhimanyu succeeded in challenging the tusker, officials said. The department has so far captured five elephants in Siddapur region. The fourth elephant succumbed after tranquilization, last week. The doctors suspected that the tusker died due to heart attack. It also carried wounds caused by fight with other elephants and there was a gun shot hole also. Conservator of forests Sudarshan, RFO Chinnappa, doctors Srinivas and Nagaraj were also present in the operation. DEFENCE RECRUITMENT RALLY AT MADIKERIThe recruitment camp for defense has begun at Madikeri yesterday. The deputy commissioner Baldevkrishna inaugurated the rally and said that the district administration has done all arrangements for the recruitment of candidates and they should utilize the opportunity. He also said that the selected candidates from Kodagu would be given training for the written test to be held on this 25th. The in charge of recruitment, brigadier Kushalappa spoke on the occasion and said that the rally is selecting candidates hailing from Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Chickmagalur, Davanagere and Shivmoga. Kushalappa said that the conditions to join the army would be included in the text books in the coming years. Hundreds of candidates from all the above places are present in the rally. DHONI, ROBIN, PANKAJ STORM KODAGUmadikeri january 10 Indian cricket team captain M.S.Dhoni and Billiards champion Pankaj Advani created a storm in a section of Kodagu by appearing in the house of cricketer Robin Uthappa. Dhoni and pankaj are here on a holiday setting aside the Z category security and other engagements. Dhoni Trio went visited an Eshwara temple in the morning and spent 15 minuites in prayer. Apart from it, they are enjoying fishing, walking in the coffee estate and feasting on Coorg delicacies. Dhoni didi not speak a word with any one present. He just told press "I choose this place for vacation" people from in and around Sunticoppa and parts of Kodagu rushed to the sprawling coffee estate of Robin Uthappa at Sunticoppa to get a glimpse of cricket hero. Robins father, hockey coach Venu Uthappa and mother Rozy played hosts. |
