BHOOMI POOJA FOR WATER PROJECT

District in charge minister Krishna Palemar performed Bhhomi Pooja yesterday for the ambitious ‘Kundamaistry’drinking water project.

Performing pooja, the minister said that the government is committed to provide drinking water to all and especially to rural people. Kunda maistry is a rupees seven crore project mooted by the deputy speaker K.G.Bopaiah. Water to Madikeri will be supplied from Kundamaistry river located 7.5 kilometers away at Gaalibeedu. The minister said that the project will be ready in 18 months time.

MLA Appachu Ranjan spoke on the occasion and said that the drinking water problem in the district will be solved. Earlier he started the Hitachi machine to formally commence the work.

CMC president Ponnappa spoke on the occasion and said that construction works to accommodate water supply in the town has begun and around rupees five lakh would be spent on it. Deputy Commissioner Baladevakrishna spoke on the occasion and said that the contractors would be paid only as and when they show progress.

Superintendent of Police Suresh, former Taluk Panchayath presidents Talur Kishorekumar, Kalappa, Commissioner of CMC, Raya and others were present.

RAPE; ACCUSED ARRESTED

An auto driver Shariff was arrested by Napoklu police on charges of raping a girl.

The incident was reported yesterday at napoklu.

Shariff took a ninth standard student to nalaknad palace yesterday and reportedly raped her. She informed the incident to her parents and they lodged a complaint with the police.

Sub inspector Mahadevaswamy arrested the accused and produced him before the judge. Shariff is sent to judicial custody.
