‘MAYURA’ FROM POLICE TO STAND BYMadikeri January 12 Three police patrols by name ‘Mayura’ was dedicated to the police department by the Inspector General of Police, Jeevankumar Gaonkar here on the occasion of police sports day. Addressing the valedictory function here yesterday,Gaonkar said that the ‘Mayura, team will be on the toe and will reach the place of crime as early as possible on receiving the information. It will be linked with wireless unit and one jeep each will be sent to three taluka head quarterses, Madikeri, Virajpet and Somwarpet. Gaonkar asked the superintendent of police to reward the best team each year to recognize their service. Gaonkar told in his speech that the police should imbibe sportive spirit and face the challenges of the life in a sportive manner. He called upon the police to lead a model life and bring laurel to the department. Sports are also must to ease the tension, he opined. The two day police sports event came to an end with the distribution of prizes. Col (Retired) M.K.Appaiah, superintendent of police T.R.Suresh were also present on the dais. DOWRY HARASSMENT; HOUSE MAKER ENDS LIFEParents of a 27 year old house maker committed suicide at Shanivarsanthe on the night of tenth. Her parents, hailing from Shimoga have lodged a complaint with the police stating that Soumya got married to one Santosh of Shanivarsanthe during 2000. They stated that their daughter was being harassed by her husband and in-laws continuously for dowry. Soumya committed suicide by hanging herself at her husband’s house at night. Police have registered a case. CALL TO RETAIN LAND AND CULTURE OF KODAGUThe elected representatives have called to retain the culture and land of Kodagu. Participating in a book release function, MLC S.G.Medappa, Deputy Speaker K.G.Bopaiah and MLA Appachu Ranjan expressed deep concern about the diminishing culture and selling of land to outsiders. Releasing a book, ‘Kodava Pattaya” authored by Panjerira C.Belliappa, K.G.Bopaiah expressed concern and said that Kodagu is losing its old charm. Youth are opting studies outside and parents are trying to settle outside. The lands in Kodagu are being bought by outsiders and the culture has no place to play. He said that the government will find ways to provide job opportunity to youth in the district. Appachu Ranjan presided over the function and said that there is no other place as beautiful as Kodagu in the world and it is our duty to protect it. Author belliappa, guest Kodira Kushalappa spoke on the occasion. Jagadish Belliappa welcomed the gathering. Madetira belliappa compered the programme. |
