“RATOTSAV” ATTRACTSTHOUSANDSMadikeri January 16, 2009 Thousands of devotees from dozens of villages around Shanthalli in Somwarpet witnessed Ratotsav yesterday. Sree Kumaralingeshwara Ratotsav had a special significance as the temple was celebrating golden jubilee of Ratotsav. The Kumaralingeshwara temple is said to be century old. The “Ratayatra” began in the noon with devotees pulling the cart by chanting names of God in praise. The cart was pulled along the main road and returned by evening. Free food was distributed to devotees. The temple committee led by president K.K.Subbaiah, vice president I.H.Ningappa, secretary Manohar had organized various sports events. A state level volley ball tournament and district level throw ball tournaments are also going on. The Utsav ended today with mahapooja and cultural programmes. CASTE ABUSE; VICE PRESIDENT GETS BAILThe vice president of the Somwarpet Town Panchayath, Vijayalakshmi and here husband Suresh succeeded in getting bail against caste abuse charge they are facing. President Nalini Ganesh had lodged a complaint against the couple in Somwarpet police station as the duo took strong objections over a issue in the meeting. Nalini hails from BJP. Vijayalakshmi, an old BJP leader has joined congress after difference of opinion. Hence people see more of politics in the atrocity issue than any cause. Both congress and BJP went on holding protest against each others. While congress was demanding to quash the case, BJP was urging the arrest of the couple. However the district and sessions court yesterday accepted their plea for anticipatory bail and granted it. HIGH TENSION SCHEME OPPOSEDThe Cauvery Sene and Coorg Wild Life Society have opposed the High tension wire scheme in South Kodagu. Calling a joint press conference, convener of the Cauvery Sene, Ravi Chengappa and warden of Wild Life society, Col.Muthanna told that the government is trying to re start the scheme which was once stalled. The above leaders are opposing the High Tension wire crossing from South Kodagu to kerala. They are claiming that the power will damage the life of wild species and there will be land loss also. The scheme was given up after people of South Kodagu revolted against it and stalled the works physically and held rallyies. Ravi Chengappa and Col Muthanna have appealed to the government to stop the move immediately and respect the majority opinion. |
