DC CALLS TO UTILISE ‘NAREGA’ SCHEME

The Deputy Commissioner Baladeva Krishna called upon the Stree Shakthi Units and self help groups to make use of the “Narega” scheme and reap its fruit.

Addressing a meeting at the Old Assembly hall here yesterday, the DC said that the district has enough funds to spend on it and that should be used properly.

He disclosed that about rupees eight crores of rupees was released to Kodagu under national Employment Assurance Scheme and only rupees two crores was spent from it. He regretted that while the other districts have received second installments by spending the whole amount, Kodagu is lagging behind.

Baladevakrishna said that the rupees six crore was released to all the gram panchayaths and it should be spent on development works. He called upon the Stree Shakthi Units to approach the respective Gram Panchayaths and take up works. He also asked the groups to put up sales of their products in the State Level Journalists conference to be held during next month.

The executive officer of Madikeri taluk Panchayath, Motaiah spoke on the occasion and informed that the above scheme concentrates on keeping the villages clean and other developments. Stree Shakthi members were asked to take up suitable works.

Executive officer of Somwarpet Taluk Panchayath, G.N.Nagaraj spoke and said that repairing the drains, growing trees and nurseries, repairing lakes will also come under the above scheme. Executive officer of Somwarpet, Nagaraj spoke and said that the members are entitled for accident insurance under this scheme.

Zilla Panchayath Executive Officer Ramachandrappa and other officials were present.

THREE UNDER ARREST FOR BOMB THREATENING

Kodagu police have taken to custody three youths from Bangalore for posing bomb threat to Palur Sree Mahalingeshwara temple here and life threatening to the priest and his wife.

Superintendent of Police Suresh has said that the police have rounded up three youths at Bangalore and the investigation is on.

The accused were making anonymous calls to the temple and were threatening the priest and cautioned that the temple would be blown off. They also called the BJP spokes person M.B.Devaiah and threatened him. The mobile sim card used for the call was also recovered.

LADY DONE TO DEATH;

A house maker attacked with a bill hook by her relative died at Hassan hospital yesterday.

According to police, Rajamani, a resident of Malambi village near Shanivarsanthe was attacked by her relative M.N.Mallesh on 21st. She was attacked in the coffee estate as she questioned the accused about a branch of a tree which had fallen on her land. She was shifted to Hassan hospital with a deep cut on the head. She succumbed to injury today.

Police have arrested Mallesh and produced him before court.
