URGE TO AMEND LAW FOR GOVERNMENT JOB

The government was urged to bring amendment to provide job only to those who know Kannada in Karnataka.

The audience vouched the idea put forth by the president of Virajpet taluk Kannada Sahitya Sammelan Vedamurthy Vishnu Bhat yesterday during his address.

Vishnubhat regretted that in spite of Karnataka receiving Kannada status fifty two years ago, more than 40 percent Kannadigas here do not know Kannada. He stressed the need to make Kannada study compulsory in English mediums also. The government and officials should take sincere interest to strengthen Kannada, he opined. Taking objection to mixing English words with Kannada, he said that media should play a major role in it.

People in large number read newspapers and believe what is written in them as truth. Hence they should bear maximum responsibility of inculcating better Kannada, he opined.

Addressing the gathering, deputy speaker K.G.Bopaiah regretted that people have to fight to save Kannada in its own land. He informed that the government has considered this year as Kannada implementation year and the officers and employees should strive to conduct all correspondences in Kannada.

Littérateur Jaraganahalli Shivashankar inaugurated the conference and said that there is need to popularize kannada literature. People believe Kannada channels as ultimate Kannada propagators and may get mislead. He enthralled the audience with his poems and reiterated that people should learn to enjoy the essence and beauty of kannada literature.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Baladeva Krishna informed that the departments in Kodagu are strictly instructed to implement Kannada. He regretted that people have the habit of writing applications in English and they should also understand the importance of kannada.

District Kannada sahitya parishath president T.P.Ramesh, Taluk president B.G.raghunath naik, K.T.Baby Mathew, J.C.Shekar, Taluk panchayath president kanthi belliappa and others were present.

Seminars and group discussions were also held during the day.

NANAIAH CALLS TO BAN SELF PROCLAIMED ORGANISATIONS

MLC M.C.Nanaiah has urged the government to ban self proclaimed Kannada organizations.

Addressing the valedictory function of the Kannada sahitya Sammelan at Siddapur, Nanaiah lamented that such organizations are indulging in burning the busses and damaging government properties.

He stated that learning of Kannada should start from home and children should be taught Kannada from young age.

MLA Appachu ranjan spoke on the occasion and said that priority should be given to Kannada by all. MLC S.G.Medappa urged to hold high the mantle of Kannada.

Meanwhile a resolution was passed in the Sammelan. The government was urged to improve the infrastructure of schools located in the border areas. Urge to take up repair work of Kodagu makutta road by utilizing rupees 22 crores released for the purpose, increasing the grant to teach Kannada to non Kannadigas in the border areas, strict implementation of writing boards in kannada.

FARMER COMMITTS SUICIDE;

A FARMER IN North Kodagu committed suicide, unable to bare the brunt of debt.

According to reports, L.G.Somashekaraiah of Besur village near Shanivarasanthe was unable to repay loan to the tune of rupees one lakh and consumed poison recently. He was shifted to a hospital at hassan and he succumbed yesterday.

He leaves wife and two children.
