ELECTRONIC WEIGHING SCALES COMPULSORY

The government has made electronic weighing scales as compulsory.

Minister for agriculture Market and Sugar, Shivaraj Sangappa Tangadagi instructed the APMC officials to monitor the order and take stringent action against those who do not abide by government order. Shivaraj was speaking after inaugurating rural market at Cherambane yesterday. He informed that the electronic weighing scales in all shops and business establishments should be installed by July end.

The minister informed that seven teams of officials are formed to block leakage of cess and about 120 KPSC officials would be inducted to streamline marketing system and to block illegal practices. He stated that the government is committed to stop the involvement of brokers who will cause loss to the rural growers and this is the reason it intends to start Rural markets.

The Market place at Cherambane was built at a cost of rupees 11.5 lakhs. He informed that he is visiting all the APMCs in the state to improve them and they are earning profit. Giving statistics, he said that the income used to be only rupees 150 crores to exchequer earlier and now it is increase to rupees 220 crores during Yediyurappas tenure. He disclosed that rupees twenty lakhs is collected as tax through APMC in Kodagu and urged to increase the revenue further.

District in charge minister Krishna Palemar spoke on the occasion and called upon the rural people to make use of the market facility. MLC S.G.Medappa explained the benefits of the rural market.

Deputy Speaker K.G.Bopaiah informed that the government will open similar markets at Bhagamandala, Talacauvery, karike and other rural areas and the requisitions are given to the government. He also called upon the agriculturists to make use of the refrigerators being supplied to Agriculture departments by the government.

Taluk panchayath member Manoj Mandanna, Cherambane VSSN president Appaiah, VSSN president B.P.Sumana and others were present.

CM HAS NO RIGHT TO OPPOSE FORMATION OF NEW STATE; M.C.NANAIAH

The chief minister has no right to oppose formation of new state, said MLC M.C.Nanaiah.

Addressing the scribes here yesterday, the former law and parliamentary minister M.C.nanaiah said that he saw the statement made by Yediyurappa that he will oppose the Formation of separate states in Karnataka and reiterated thus. He said that Kodagu enjoyed the status of “C” state earlier and he will welcome the proposal as Kodagu has distict culture. Yediyurappa cannot oppose a proposal put forth by the centre, he asserted. Kodagu shall emerge as a prestigious state, if a chance is given, he said.

He called upon the people and politicians to support the move by the government.

Meanwhile, reacting to the case registered against the DCC Bank chairman, Matanda Ramesh, his supporter, Nanaiah stated that the complaints are politically motivated. He accused deputy speaker K.G.bopaiah of meddling with the administration and said that BJP is considering politics as a profession. He regretted that the district administration is forced to register criminal case against responsible citizens and said that the officials are not prepared to serve in Kodagu due to political interference. It was never so as is reaching a dangerous pitch, he said.

Nanaiah said that the DCC bank election is taking the shape of Bellary culture and the BJP is planning to force voters into resort to gain votes.

MINISTER SAYS NO TO SEPARATE STATE;

The district in charge minister Krishna Palemar has said that he does not want Kodagu to be separated.

Talking to scribes during the inauguration of market yard at Cherambane yesterday, Krishna Palemar said that separating Kodagu from Karnataka is like breaking a house. Sepeartion will cause many hurdles and it is better to live together, he opined.

Meanwhile, president of Codava National Council, N.U.nachappa has also opposed formation of Kodagu state. Though he had begun the fight for a separate state, decades ago, nachappa said that he does not want a separate state now and he re has restricted his fight to Kodava land.
