MONSOON ACTIVE IN KODAGU

At last, rain coats, Gum boots and Umbrellas stuffed in cupboards are out in Kodagu. The missing mist, fierce wind and lashing rainfall are back bringing a smile of hope on the lips of planters and agriculturists. Mosoon is active in Kodagu since three days. River cauvery, harangi and others are swelling after a year.

The water level at Bhagamandala where three holy rivers meet is rising. Streams and rivers all over Kodagu have begun to flow with force.

Talacauvery has received 4.16 inches of rainfall in one day and it has so far received 47.10 inches of rainfall. Last year it had received 80 inches till this date.

Bhagamandala received 61.40 mm of rainfall in 24 hours. The water level is rising slowly and continuous rainfall will block the main road leading to Talacauvery, Napoklu and other villages.

Kodagu so far has received 20.20 inches of rainfall. It had rained 33.23 inches last year till this date. Madikeri received 1.51 inches of rainfall in 24 hours. So far it has rained 28.91 inches of rainfall and it was 46.70 inches last year. Virajpet has so far received 20.94 inches so far and it was 31.41 inches last year. Somwarpet has registered 10.76 inches, whereas it had rained 22.99 inches last year.

Precautionary measures have been taken by the district administration at sensitive spots like Bhagamandala, Dubare and other low lying areas to ensure safety.

Water level at Harangi is on the increase. The level has touched 2805.5 feet. The inflow is 401 cusecs.

DCC BANK ELECTION:JDS UPPERHAND

Madikeri July 3: The prestigious DCC bank election turned to neck to neck fight between JDS and BJP. With the help of three seats won through lottery, JDS gained to get 6 seats and BJP has to be satisfied with 5 seats.

This year the fight seemed to be between two leaders. M.C.Nanaiah MLC and the senior cooperative leader in Kodagu of JDS and K.G.Bopaiah deputy speaker and BJP leader. Both took it as personal prestige to win this elections. This led to personal allegations between each other through media. Out of 11 seats JDS representatives are lucky to gain three seats through lottery. BJP won three seats in Madikeri thaluk, won 1 seat each in Somwarpet and Virajpet thaluks.JDS won one district representative seat and 2 seats in Somwarpet thaluk by virtue of lottery when BJP candidates also got equal votes. The party sweeped three seats in Virajpet thaluk

The president election will be held soon. The administrative board will be formed through the elected representatives majority votes and also 1 vote of nominated seat from State Apex bank and another vote of deputy registrar of cooperative societies, Kodagu who is nominated to DCC bank by the Govt..
