TUSKER TRAMPLES TWO; ONE DIESOne person died on the spot and another was severely injured as a tusker attacked them at Bellur village near Srimangala yesterday. An estate worker Mani, 40 was attacked by the tusker at night as he was walking back to his house at night. The tusker pierced its ivory into his hear, which came out from the other side and trampled him to death. It chased another person H.K.Singa, 65, who was with the deceased and trampled him. Singa survived with a thigh fracture and is shifted to hospital. ACFO Cariappa and RFO Chandrahas visited the spot and paid an initial compensation of rupees five thousand to the family of the deceased. They have promised to release rupees 1.5 lakhs in a months time. NEW DC TAKES CHARGE;The newly appointed Deputy Commissioner Ashwatha Gowda yesterday took charge from the out going DC M.K.baladevakrishna. Ashwathanarayana Gowda assured to discharge his duty sincerely for the development of the district. Baladevakrishna stated that the new DC will complete the works he had begun. The district officers, transferred together were given a warm farewell. Deputy Commissioner Baladeva Krishna, DFO Mallesh, HQA Chikka Thammaiah werefelicitated by the committee and also from the district journalists association. The committee remembered the sincere effort by the DC during the re consecration ceremony held at Bhagamandala recently. The journalists association has also recalled the assistance by the officials during the state level journalist’s conference. Working President Matanda Monnappa presided over. G.Rajendra compered. Suresh Chengappa proposed vote of thanks. The government has transferred four top officials from the district including the Chief Executive officer of the Zilla panchayath. NANAIAH OPPOSED AGRI LAND CONVERSION;MLC M.C.Nanaiah has said here that the agriculture lands should not be converted and the government should bring a stay to it. Addressing the gathering at the Agriculture and Land Development Bank golden jubilee function here yesterday, Nanaiah said that paddy field and agriculture lands are store houses of water. Allowing construction on such lands is like destroying the source of water, he opined. He alleged that the government which is waiving off loans and interests of farmers and agriculturists is not refunding it to co operative societies. If the same trend continues, the co op sector will slowly crumble down. However he welcomed the loan waiver from State government and Vidarba Package from central government. He informed that about rupees seventy crore loan was waived off in Kodagu. Deputy Speaker K.G.Bopaiah spoke on the occasion and said that he will discuss in the government about making payment in connection with the waiver of loan to co operative sector. State land development bank chairman Shivram spoke on the occasion and said that pending loan recovery has become a problem after the government began to release loan at three percent interest. The government has to come out with a solution to it, he asserted. Bank president B.P.kaverappa welcomed the gathering. |
