MLA TO MEET CM FOR SHIFTING BUSTAND

Madikeri June 17, 2009

MLA Appachu Ranjan has said that he will lead a delegation to meet the Chief Minister urging him to shift the private bustand.

Addressing the City Municipal Council meeting yesterday, Appachu Ranjan said that Madikeri private bus stand area has become too congested. Bustand has to be shifted and proper parking places has to be arranged. Members brought to his notice that the land belonging to Agriculture research station in college road earlier could not get government nod. He suggested that a delegation meets the CM along with other needs of the town and take up the new projects.

Meanwhile, the meeting chaired by the president P.D.Ponnappa turned hot as opposition members took strong objection to the CMC spending rupees eight lakhs during election for various things. They observed that the election expenditures should be borne by the election commission and there was no necessity to spend from the CMC fund. The meeting passed a resolution to send a letter to the election commissioner.

The meeting decided to hold a separate meeting to take a decision about the hike in tax structure as per the government’s decision. The government has increased property tax from five to nine percent for domestic and commercial properties.

The members raised objection to the Nirmithi Kendra taking up the construction work of CMC Complex. They alleged that the amount was hiked to rupees sixty 6.94 lakhs against the agreement. A resolution was passed to allow the agreed amount to be spent through Nirmiti Kendra for construction and the remaining construction would be given to PWD. The president said that they will receive rupees thirty lakhs from the chief minister’s fund.

Vice president latha Bangera was also present.
