POLITICAL VENGENCE ENDS IN MURDER;Madikeri June 20, 2009 A murder at Virajpet has taken political colour and district congress committee has urged immediate action against the culprits, workers from BJP. Chotteyanda Belliappa, 36, who had joined Congress a year ago from BJP was waylaid, attacked and murdered on Thursday night. According to police, the deceased was moving in an autoriksha on the night of 18th. A Maruthi van blocked the way in a bridge and a group of people jumped out with lethal weapons. The driver of the auto and another inmate were chased away from the scene. The accused thrashed Belliappa and hit him with a sword. Belliappa sprawled on the road in a pool of blood. In spite of deep cuts on head and body he was still breathing. Passers by shifted him to a hospital at K.R.Hospital and he breathed his last. Police arrested Dinesh, Dayanad and Vishnu, workers of BJP and seized two Maruthi vans in this connection. Four more suspects A.Harish, D.K.Harish, Prabhu and Valson are taken into custody for enquiry. While Congress blames BJP for murder and has given political colour, police also suspect timber business rivalry between two groups. There were group clashes between Belliappa and Dayanand’s supporters and cases were booked earlier also. District Congress president president Veena Achaiah, Virajpet town congress president Dhruva Kumar has urged the police to punish the culprits and put an end to political violence. CMC TO APPROACH GOVT ON SDTThe City Municipal Council has decided to approach government to show concession on property tax. Member Chummi Devaiah told in the CMC meeting held here yesterday that the self assessment being levied by the government is on the higher side and it should be brought down. Another member razak said that Kodagu has rainfall all the time and people can earn only within three or four months in a year. Considering the low income rate and adverse whether conditions, the government should re consider the tax slab. President Ponnappa informed the meeting that the government may not be able to change the slab. He said that Virajpet and other Town Panchayaths have begun to collect the tax as per the directions from the government and we also have to abide by it. The newly appointed commissioner Sreekanth Rao clarified that the government cannot reverse its decision and it may stop other grants if the CMC fails to collect the tax. Chummi Devaiah suggested that the matter be discussed with the people’s representatives and government be approached through them. Member Rajesh informed that the member of the Parliament, Vishwanath would be attending the meeting next time and the issue could be taken up in his presence. President agreed for the suggestion. Members Aiyappa and Munir opined that the tax frame work should be locally made. ADMINISTRATION GOES HI TECHThe district administration is going hi tech and all the officials would be given Wireless sets to stand on their toes. Assistant commissioner Akram pasha told here that officials in Hobli level will also be given Wireless instruments and a control room is being opened to monitor them. He informed that the district officials would be able to get all the information with no loss of time and it will be able to manage any eventualities and disasters rightly. He informed that Mysore has gone Hi tech and the administration is being managed successfully. Kodagu stands second in implementing the system and Mandya is also on its way. The officials are expected to keep the instruments round the clock on and should keep informing the control room about any disasters or so. They are also asked to file rain report on regular basis. Tahasildars and deputy tahasildars will issue regular assignment to Hobli officials each morning over the system. Akram Pasha disclosed that Wirless instruments would be provided to district hospitals and health officials in future. |
