CHIEF ENGINEER STOPS KERALA-KARNATAKA HIGH WAY WORK

FINDS RUBBISH QUALITY OF WORK

Madikeri June 22: PWD state chief engineer Mrithyunjayaswamy stopped the reconstruction of Kerala-Karnataka border high way road stretching through Makutta village in Kodagu district.

He visited the work spot and watched the inferior quality of work done during the commencement of the project. Public organizations earlier have complained to him about the poor quality of work. The state govt. had sanctioned Rs. 25 crore for the work. The Govt. had released the amount after the high court interfered in the matter. After hearing a writ petition by some civilians, about the worst condition of the road and thus d-linking Karnataka and kerala state, the Karnataka high court had ordered to reconstruct the road immediately by providing special fund for the work by the state Govt.As per the high court direction the state Govt. had released a special grant for the work.

The work was recently commenced, but the contractor failed to maintain the required standard as per specification while carrying the work.

The chief engineer took to task his department under officers in the district during his visit to the work place. He ordered to dismantle the culverts but in 17 k.m length road which are too poor in quality. The retaining wall built near memankolli is unscientific and no pipes are installed to allow the flow of rain water. Chief engineer directed the local officers to immediately exterminate the wall and to reconstruct it after providing proper water pipe connections for enabling flow of rain water.He directed to reconstruct the road from makutta to Kakethodu upto 5 kms.s range although the work is done by the contractor. He told that broken stones are interleaved, ,but the preliminary leveling of the ground was not done

He visited upto to Kuutupole bridge. He has directed the concerned to provide drainage system before the construction of 79 culverts mentiponed in the project. The contractor is so for been paid Rs. 1.98 crores by the department..The C.E. directed the local engineers to follow the strict vigil during the work. Every 200 metres of the work should be certified for the standard maintenance The only, the continuation of the work should follow – he instructed
