RAIN DRAINS HARANGI RESERVOIR

The weak monsoon in Kodagu sends shock waves across. While the agriculturists and planters t Kodagu are worried about their next crop and cultivation, agriculture community across Mysore are also worried about shortage of water. The government however is digging for solutions to quench the thirst of Bangaloreans in the absence of Cauvery waters.

The Harangi reservoir, which would be brimming by June every year, has become very thin. The water level has come down to 2803.65 feet. The maximum level is 2859 feet and last year the height at this time was 2830.40.

Harangi went full on July 18 last year as monsoon was very active. The officials state that the reservoir may not be filled to the maximum level this year if the monsoon continues to be this way.

Rainfall is almost forty percent down this year. The district has received 17.41 inches of rainfall this year and it was 26.94 inches, last year. Madikeri has registered 24.39 inches of rainfall so far and it was 37.27 inches last year. Somwarpet has received 9.76 inches so far against 17.86 inches last year. Virajpet has registered 18.08 inches so far and it was 25.70 inches.

CM MAY COME TOMORROW;

The BJP sources told here that the Chief Minister, scheduled to meet L.K.Advani at Kodagu, unofficially today is not confirmed. They said that Yediyurappa may meet him at orange county tomorrow. Advani and family is scheduled to leave Kodagu tomorrow.

MADIKERI TO GO GREEN AND CLEAN;

The City municipal Council president P.D.Ponnappa told here that he is chalking out programmes to turn Madikeri clean and greener.

Addressing rotary function here today, Ponnappa sought the assistance of public and organizations in converting the projects into reality. He said that couple of meetings was held to ban plastic totally in town and it would be made compulsory. He released paper bags in the function and called upon people to use such bags to reduce pollution. He also stated that he wishes to open more parks in town and invited individuals and organizations to maintain them. Few parks are already adopted by others and I need more parks in town, he said.

K.M.Karumbaiah presided over the meeting.
