WHERE THE NURSERY GONE?;NO ANSWWRMadikeri June 28: It is Govt scheme through which the free nurseries are distributed to small growers. Pepper,orange,anthurium plants will be distributed during June - July months. This year, the growers are cheated with the negative answer. The staff and officers say”nursery plants are exhausted during April and may itself. The planting season usually commences after the monsoon commences and the nurseries should be distributed during the season only. The political representatives have influenced to the big growers and the rich planters and the department is yielded. All the nurseries are carried away by the VIPs keeping 0 Balance for the needy small growers. Nursery distribution is mainly misused in Napoklu, Aravathoklu, Kudige, Bilugunda, Madapu, Harangi and Ponnampet areas where the nurseries under Govt. Scheme runs. The horticulture department had schemes of growing nursery to be planed during the rainy season. This year the nurseries were grown earlier. Horticulture mission has organized the poly house for the nurseries The nursery development was started during last October and the plants grown for replanting during march, Although the nurseries could not be replanted during march, with influence many big growers have carried the nurseries from various centers. Horticulture mission has again sent a proposal for Rs. 3.40 crore project for nursery development in Kodagu district. But, many small farmers complained to “Times “ that they could not get a nurseries this year for replanting in their lands. Photo: Z.P.
