SOMWARPET TEACHERS IN DOLDRUMS;

Around 700 government teachers at Somwarpet taluk are working without salary from three months. While the teachers at Madikeri and Virajpet taluk have been receiving the salary, Somwarpet teachers are denied of it due to technical reasons. The teachers association alleges that the negligence by the Block Education Office staff has caused the delay and the higher officials are turning a deaf ear.

According to the association, the BEO staff is supposed to send proper intimation to finace department in the state through computer and it was not done. The higher ups have failed to sort out the flaw and the payment is being held.

The teachers had conducted protest for weeks and withdrew it after getting assurance from the DDPI and elected representatives, last week. However, their promises remain only in newspaper reports, they say.

While contacted, the Block Education Officer clarified that arrangements are made to pay the teachers through some other head of account and the cheques are being issued.

The association president Yogesh and secretary Majunath told that they are made to wait before offices to collect their salary. This is humiliating to them and lots of time is also being wasted.
