SPEAKER CAN ATTEND MEETINGS; RANJAN

Madikeri February 5, 2010

There is no rule which says that a speaker should not attend the meetings, said MLA Appachu Ranjan.

Addressing a press conference here yesterday, Ranjan said that Bopaiah rightfully signed the Jilla Panchayath attendance book during the last meeting. He was commenting on remarks passed by MLC M.C.Nanaiah and MP Vishwanath who had termed it as wrong and speaker should be questioned about it.

Appachu Ranjan said that Bopaiah had come to the meeting hall and signed the book and nobody forged his signature. Press strongly protested against the statement as nobody has seen him coming. He said that the signature was important as they had to take up important decisions. Ranjan went hammer and tongs against the Congress members and said that their only intention is to obstruct meeting and development.

Appachu ranjan said that he is opposed to the Tourism proposal to arrange Heli tourism to talakaveri. “We will not allow this to happen as it is going to disturb the sanctity of the holy place”, he said.

Reacting to the various problems the district hospital is facing, he said that a meeting would be called soon and the problem would be solved within fifteen days.

The Zilla Panchayath president Vijay also supported the stand. Asked why the attendance book was kept outside the meeting hall, he opined that the rule says so. He had no answer to the question why the rule was not being followed so far.

Vajay said that the ZP offices will be moved to a new building. He also said that a new building has to be built after consultation with members and representatives as the building they are moving into has no parking place and cannot house all the departments.

ZP vice president Kanjitanda Anitha was also present.

GOVERNOR REBUKES MCN?

The chairman of the Zilla Panchayath sub committee, Manu Muthappa told that MLC M.C.Nanaiah had been trying tooth and nail to remove K.G.Bopaiah from the post of the Speaker.

Addressing the scribes yesterday, along with the ZP president Vijaya and MLA Appachu ranjan, he alleged that Nanaiah had led a delegation of JDs legislatures to the governor and tried to pressurize him to remove the speaker. Irritated by the pressure, the governor reportedly told him ‘I know my limits’ and asked them to leave.

Manu Muthappa brought this topic as M.C.Nanaiah has said that Bopaiah as speaker can not attend Zilla panchayath meetings.
